Such a satisfying little game and such wonderful pixel art. Great job, look forward to seeing more.
Well, I think you're already aware of the pacing and lack of threat (based on other commenters). I think the core of your game is solid, but it feels like the game is lacking an overall goal. I would recommend finding other ways to compliment what you have and to streamline the player's objective. Perhaps make the goal about reaching a destination (like they're migrating) or you have to destroy (I'm using this loosely) something. Find a way to add some slight randomness and some more obstacles (like wind, fire, even humans). I would definitely try to keep each element as simple as possible - logical way that each challenge/obstacle behaves.
Also, if/when you make the chicken more challenging, you should make them fall asleep after eating a certain number of locusts - that way it's not too punishing.
That’s interesting you say that you feel the game is lacking an overall goal, I agree it seems a little open ended but I was thinking the goal was survival!
But adding specific things to destroy is a great idea, perhaps as you said, there can be tasks that compliment the overall survival aspect. I like the idea of destroying something or somethings. Perhaps eating all the bushes around 5 monuments or eating all the crops specifically from a farm.
Wind and fire are fantastic ideas! Perhaps even to the extent of you being able to be the cause of them by setting your swarm on fire to spread it to different fields.
I like the idea of chickens falling asleep too. They definitely would have a food coma after eating that many insects!
This feedback has been so helpful, is there anything else?
Very nice game and a perfect art, the best part is chickens or docks that blocking you
This is such a good looking game, the simple artstyle fits the gameplay perfectly, and its quite satisfying to eat everything, i just love the artstyle so much, great job!
I just played the game again and the chickens (sorry for calling them ducks :) ) basically ereased my population. :)
I just thaught that you could even go as far as adding some more maps, like a slightly more populated area, or a (green <- would probably be cleaner with the same white basemap) area with cows or something like that, but if you keep it that simple and clean, i think i would still really enjoy the constant artstyle. As i played trough the second time I also missed some sound effects, but honestly, there is no way you gonna make a game with great sound effects in 10 hours! :)
Are you considering to develop this game further?
(Also sorry for my english)
I'm sorry for filling your notification box, but I just remembered a game called Zombie Tsunami (Zombie Tsunami - Gameplay Walkthrough Part 1 (iOS, Android) - YouTube) and that one has a quite cool mechanic where you need a certain amount of zombies to destroy stuff, and i think when expanding your game, that would also be a cool thing to add and give for some more interesting gameplay, where you need to think about what to destroy next. And things you can destoy could be very different to just crops i think!
Wow thank you so much for all this feedback, it is all really useful to me, don’t apologise!
I agree completely that the pace is too slow, it was a last minute decision to make the game a little harder and I should have just left it. It will be fixed in the next update!
The ducks definitely need to be more consistent, if you managed an entire play through without them touching you, followed by a population erase, that’s something to address for sure.
Did you have any suggestions for antagonists? I am quite stuck for ideas!
A green with cows on sounds fantastic, I will definitely add that. You’re right, it would look good with the white underneath.
Sound effects are on the list too, I need some nice crunching and buzzing sounds.
Yes, I will definitely be developing this further, it seems to have been quite successful so far and I’ve had fun working on it.
I love the idea of reaching a threshold minimum before you can eat something, as you said it would add an order to gameplay. What sort of things are you suggesting could also be eaten?
Great to hear that the feedback helped, and you are developing this further (If you need any help for example gametesting or so i'd be in! :) )!
I think you could really go far with the things you can eat, not only things that make sense in a way, but even bigger houses, maybe vehicals (eating metal could be one of the things you need many bugs for), but its your choice how "real" you want to make the game, and if you want it to be at least slightly logical, you should prabably not read my suggestions :).
Same goes for the antagonists, i mean things like the cows obviously work well, but i thought about adding some "static enemies" like a river, with a brige where you would lose bugs (or whatever they are called :) ) falling into the river. or some really advanced enemies, like in slightly more populated areas maybe even something like a human with poison to spray. Or roads where vehicals drive on which smash you if they drive fast, but you could eat them when you have enough bugs. And to get some "speed" into the game, you could even make some kind of storm (thinking about Fortnite, where the the storm damages you and circles you and restricts the playingfield). Most of those ideas are probably completely stupid, but i was just writing down everything that came to my mind and you can see what you do with it :)
A complete other topic, i was thinking about the camera, and how i was during gameplay not sure where the map ends and where it goes further, i think the camera should zoom out when population grows, so you have a better understanding of the map as you grow.
I would love for you to help test future versions!
Interesting idea that locusts could eat metal. It could be realistic in the sense that the locusts are so hungry and there’s nothing left to eat! Or that they can smell food in the car / building so they chew through.
A river causing you to lose bugs is an interesting one! I’m just picturing a bridge and having the bugs go single file across it so it takes forever lol
Poison is a very interesting idea to work with too, I wonder if you’d have to test a field of crops with a single locust to see if he dies or not. Or you would have to invade during the poisoning and eat as much as possible.
A road would definitely make things interesting too! I can imagine building up a swarm to be able to handle the loss from damage of cars hitting you.
A storm would be a great idea, although perhaps more focused like a tornado that also is destroying crops along side you. Then it could be like a race (while also being a threat!)
I agree that the camera should zoom out, the bigger your swarm! But I was also thinking about the idea of having more RTS like controls which would mean the camera zoom and position would be controlled by you so you could manage your swarm. But maybe the zoom would be directly related to your swarm size as an incentive to get a bigger swarm, that could be interesting!
These ideas are so great! Do you have any more?
Nice game! I had a lot of fun playing it! I did feel like it was a bit slow though.
This game was insanely cool idea! The art is amazing and this game is so unique good job!!
I saw this game coming by in the submission list and I pressed on it because of the art. It is really pretty! I anyway appreciate pixel art a lot, but when it is on this small scale I really like it even more :) Together with the music I thought this was a really nice experience.
The gameplay was interesting as well, but as many people have said, a bit slow. There are also not that many decisions to make, just stay away from chickens, but otherwise just eat everything that is yellow. Maybe it would have been cool if you could split the swarm in pieces? Then you could have used part of the swarm to distract chickens or something. Just spouting some ideas though.
Great game though! Thanks for making it!
Hi thank you so much for playing and taking the time to write such wonderful feedback! I’m so glad to hear you liked the art and had a really nice experience!
I agree entirely that the game was too slow! I nerfed it last second and that was a big mistake, it’s been my strongest feedback so far.
Splitting the swarm sounds like a fascinating idea, I like the concept of sacrificing part of yourself to distract the chickens or lead them away! It makes me wonder if an RTS style control scheme (where you can box cast select locusts as if they were units) would work better! I will definitely investigate that.
Did you have any other suggestions?
Love the art, the concept and the music! The speed movement it’s a little too slow but everything else was amazing! got me super hooked!
you earned all my 5star ratings lol(first game) keep it up
i wish i made something similar to this
how long did this take you btw?
Hi! Thank you so much for playing! I’m so glad to hear I earned your full 5 star ratings, that means a lot!
And you still can make something similar to this, go wild! Show me when it’s done, I’d love to see it.
This took me about 10 hours in total, I wish I’d been able to spend more time on it.
Did you have any suggestions?
This was unexpectedly fun! I would love to play a more fleshed out version!
For me, it felt like that the chickens were too strong compared to you. Once they started following the swarm (especially if a lot of your bugs are eating) they just wipe out 80% of the locusts. You could implement some way for the player to deal with the chickens somehow :D I followed you on Itch, so I should get a notification if you post an update to the game:)
Nice game !!! Graphics was very good . Good job!!! 5 - star ratings in all
Funny enough despite you saying it's rushed, I loved this. It's a really fun short experience with a very good core mechanic that held my attention. Also, the art is consistent and nice to look at. I just I could see the game closer when playing, it was a very small window.
Great job!
If you have another person and a controller available to plugin please check out my game!
Thank you so much for playing! I’m so glad to hear that you loved it, despite it being a short experience!
The window size is definitely something that needs to be addressed, I’ll make sure it’s scaleable for sure. For now, you can use ctrl and + or - to zoom in the page!
Did you have any other suggestions?
Very cool. I love the simple graphics and animations. The idea of making a big swarm of stuff is also a neat idea. I wish it was slightly faster and it was a little confusing at first on how to move around. The eating animations were interesting to watch.
Thank you so much for playing! I’m so glad to hear you liked the animations!
I agree completely that the movement pace is too slow, it has been the strongest feedback so far, I’ll address it in the next update for sure!
I’ve noted that the movement was a little confusing too, I’ll see what can be done to improve that.
Other than that, did you have any other suggestions?
Great graphic with even better gameplay, super fun and creative! However, the game feel kinda empty maybe more gimmick should help! Very fun experience overall! Keep it up!
Also I would love to hear your thought and rating on my game if you interested, please give it a try!

Really nice aesthetics but it just started a bit slow, but once you get going those chickens don't muck around :-)
