How does you game fit the theme?
I thought of conspiracy theories, and how someone would cope with having a parent being obsessed by them. "It is not real" is a plea from you to your dad.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Wrote the code, but used the Windows 95 UI for graphics.

So much ingenuity packed into a 7 day build. Curious about how a lot of this was designed and implemented.

Developer

Hi, thank you! I had only 3-4 days to work on this, but I made the most of it. Got into a really good flow that I haven't experienced before. Never had this much fun making a game! Feel free to ask me anything about the design of it

This is crazy indepth.
Did you really go back and find all these posts to make this? I love it. I'm so curious about the backstory of this lol
Great job! :D

Could you please rate my game too? Trying to get some more votes so I know what to change next time :D

Definitley needs some kind of hint system, ended up using the walkthourgh. Other than that, I am amazed with this game as it was made in such a short amount of time. Using my own browser as a fourth-wall breaker really gave this game a great puzzle aspect. Story was great, graphics and audio were perfect, and this was overall a really great game.

Developer

I'm so glad you liked the audio! I often struggle with it, but tried to keep it simple this time. A humming, a click, and an audio file that reminds him of his home. Thanks for playing, and I promise to get better at adjusting difficulty for my next game.

No problem, this was still a great experience and the audio was very fitting, as it's just a computer. (unless you turn on the music file)

This is impressive, i really like your game!! Good work!

Very interesting game, I loved it. I needed to follow the walkthrough for about half of it or just to make sure I was on the right track. I like the thought of making people use external sources to the game but it might be better and more sustainable to keep it all in-game. This reminded me a lot of Inscryption, which also does some stuff external but never takes you out of the game and probably has an internal system fallback.

Really liked the looked of computer and how you interact with it

Impressive work to recreate the computer and the feel of windows 95! I like the integration of "real" Google into the puzzles, this is a clever concept but might be double edged. Thinking back, the puzzles all made sense but I totally had to rely on the walkthrough to go through it. It was still fun though. More like a "Ohhh yeah, makes sense, wish I saw that".

Some feedback:

  • Especially when dealing with that type of subject matter, having players click on suspicious links might not be the best. I wonder, did you actually create those websites yourself for the game (very computer, etc.)?
  • Searching for the post in google didn't work very well. Even using the walkthrough, I had to force the search to not default to windows 95 until I eventually found the link. Honestly, if I wasn't following the walkthrough, I probably wouldn't have even glanced at the website or even find it in the first place.
  • I wish there could be a full screen option on the webgl version. I couldn't make out the * (was it to indicate space, or was it a #) on the postit. Actually never occurred to me that it was a * ... The bot game was also so small that didn't really pick out the clue there.

Good submission though. Different than most of the jam games. Good job!

Thank you so much for such in-depth feedback. I really need, and appreciate it! I want to keep working on it, or something similar, so this is very helpful. Thank you for playing and spending time on the feedback!

Pretty tough, but good story! I think conspiracy theories fits pretty well with the theme.

Thank you! I’m really trying to improve my puzzle games. May I ask where you got stuck?

(1 edit)

I didn't really get stuck, I just had trouble finding the winlose95 thing because it wasn't the top result, and there was a lot of text to go through, but there isn't much you can do about that.

Thanks for the reply. Great to get some feedback!

Cool game and the ending is very sad. Can you also check out my game please?

Really cool vibe! Loved the windows 95 aesthetic and the storytelling. Also, the use of external sites gave a spooky realism to it all. I've also been to the Denver airport and seen those murals, so that was pretty crazy having that tie in. Really cool stuff!

Really creative! Love the atmosphere and aesthetic of windows 95 and using a computer within my computer.

Very creative concept and everything works pretty good. But the screen size is so small, I couldn't see the first hint. Had to zoom in the browser :D

This is a great concept that could definitely be expanded on! The art looks stunning! Amazing job!

That was such a great game! This type of looking for clues are always super cool! But I did have a few struggles, sadly. I did have to use the walktrough, but I tried to do is as little as I needed. But sadly when it says to google "winlose15" icouldn't find anything. Maybe because I'm from a different country and google adjusts the search for it. Or maybe I just didn't look hard enough/did it right xD

Regardless, awesome game! Great job!

Developer

Thank you! And wow, how did I not think of that? Of curse the results would differ based on the user.  I'm really glad you pointed it out to me. If I would do something similar, I'll reconsider the Google stuff.

However, I don't think that was the problem this time. There are very few results for "winlose95", and I think you typed in "winlose15" instead. But it might still be an issue in the future. Thank you for playing!

Aahh I actually just relooked to be sure, and while I did type it right, I just didn't look hard enough! It was the third link I had to click, and after the first two were wrong, I just assumed I wasn't going to find it because of region issues.

That's totally my bad, sorry!! > ~<
