I really love this entry, pretty much gave a perfect score! I have a couple of suggestions:

1. The hitboxes & hurtboxes need to be a bit smaller, usually in a bullet hell game they are really small and it gives the player the feeling of near avoiding things when they probably didn't.

2. The projectiles need to have more contrast with the background. Typically in a bullet hell they have high contrast so you don't need to focus on them but can still tell where they relatively are.

Otherwise, I'm bookmarking this game... It's a ton of fun! I love the upgrade system and the bird theme.

Wow, thanks for the kind words! :) Your suggestions are very good, and in line with some other feedback we've got on the subject, these are definitely things we'll need to tweak in the future! For this version we went with the kinda style Cuphead has, contact with basically everything should be avoided :D but that means that player's weapons should be more distinct from enemies and other objects, and if we choose to continue with that style the weapons should have maybe some kind of glowing effect (like in Cuphead they are somewhat transparent and have bright colors). One other idea could be giving hurtful objects a clear outline with a bright color (making sure that doing so doesn't mess up the visual style too much). And of course the game also has Enter the Gungeon style bullets that should be avoided, so the subject clearly needs some clarification!

Feel free to comment on the subject if these thoughts resonated with you! All feedback is super useful for us! :)

Cheers!

Nailed it, exited to see the updates when they come!

I like this game, but the enemies spawn way too close together! there were several instances where it was impossible o get through without losing a life. Overall really good, though!

Developer

Hey and thanks for the feedback! Sometimes the stacking spawn patterns may make it a bit difficult to make it through, that's something we'll need to improve in the future. :)

Cool game. I really enjoy playing roguelike games. So far, this one was the most fun I have had playing it. The thing that I do not like about the game is the enemy spawn. Sometimes it spawns really close to the player and hit me XD.

Developer

Thanks for the great feedback, mate! We do have a circle that checks if player is near the spawn point, but maybe it could be bigger! Thanks for the valuable info :)

Awesome game, it reminds me of Vampire Survivors.

The audio is really great,  just like the visuals, but the pelican looks a little strange, I don't know why.

It's probably one of the best game from the jam, it's really fun and addictive.  I think there is no option to recover HP, so that would be great, because I always run out of health in the Super Mario-like rotating laser stage :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the comments mate! Good point about recovering HP :)

I loved the mechanics of being able to have many weapons that can be upgraded to better ones, I also liked the music, sound effects and more than anything the UI animations.

I had so much fun playing! :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks mate! Glad that you've liked our music, sfx and UI :)

Most fun I've had in the jam so far! The different powerup you get everytime caused me to retry a lot of times to try new ones (lightning rod mvp).

Developer

That is very nice to hear!

I love the different types of upgrades you can get, they make you try some stuff until you find your optimal play style, really well made. After dying I wanted to play again and again. It was really fun.

Developer(+1)

Nice to hear that you enjoyed the game, your comment on the upgrade mechanic is just what we aimed for! :)

Lots of weapons, good upgrade mechanic

Really good game :)

Great game! Love the gameplay loop and the visuals, nice job!

Developer

Thanks! Great to hear that you enjoyed the gameplay and visuals!

This game is very fun. Roguelike upgrade mechanic is super fun and give a lot of replayability. enjoyed while playing.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Cheers for the feedback! :) That's what we aimed for!

Super fun game with lots of replayability. I kept messing around with the weapons, the fact that they're directional means that depending on the position you have to play differently, which grants points for creativity.

And I love the lightning rod, got a really good fun with two lvl3 ones, got obliterated by the boss because I was too close to it though lol.

Great work with this one, I had a good time playing it.

Developer

Awesome to hear that you enjoyed playing! :)

Yeah, just gotta love the sound of Birbs getting roasted on the rods! xD It's one of my personal favorites as well!

But it is true that the boss is quite difficult with a melee weapon, you'd have to have very good reflexes to dodge the dash attack if you stood too close!

Submitted(+1)

this game has very good pixelart and challenge, but i always get stuck imideatly after the birds are over, until then: very fun

Developer

Hey mate, thanks for your comment! The obstacle stage is a bit challenging, but with some practice I'm sure you'd get through it!

Submitted(+1)

Really cool entry.

The various powerups you came up with are quite creative, especially combined with the randomness of the roguelike system and the directional slots system.

the only tiny issue i'd say is that since proposed powerups are random, you can sometimes get quite a difficult start for example when your first set only gives downwards or rear facing weapons, but then again the procedural stuff adds a lot of replay value potential so more of a nitpick than anything.

Cause if you manage to get good stuff and get a run going it's very fun, more so when you can get some of the more OP weapons.

Overall had a good time,

well done to you guys :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the detailed feedback! Great to hear that you found our ideas interesting :)

We've noticed the same thing about the powerups, and that is something we'll need to look into! Maybe if on the first level you'd always get a choice of specific weapons that are good starting weapons? Or maybe there could be different kinds of ships that each have a specific starting weapon that you could put into any slot.

Submitted(+1)

Nice game! I like the roguelike thing in that, makes it so replayable.

Developer

Thanks you mate! Gotta love 'em roguelikes :)

Submitted(+1)

Wonderful idea! I think the concept of upgrading your ship in unique ways is neat and I like the overall concept. It's challenging but creative and fun!

Developer(+1)

Cheers for the kind words, mister!

Really nice game ! Remind me of Vampire survivor, Really well polished, and lot of content Well play

Developer (1 edit)

Cheers! Yeah, Vampire Survivors was one of the big inspirations for this project ;D.

Submitted(+1)

I am a cuker for well polished games and I love everything about this!

The only criticism I have is that you used esc for pause. Since it's play in browser it fucks up the fullscreen. I would also appreciate more powerful weapons. Especially early in the round it is very tricky to avoid to many projectiles on screen.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! Yes, we didn't take the esc for key button thing into account when making it, which was a mistake. And yeah, the balancing of the weapons is still a bit off, we'll dive into it after we recover from the jam :).  One possible idea is to build more depth into the system with more weapon levels and different kinds of weapons (also more powerful super weapons!).

Submitted(+1)

I loved this game! super fun, the music was great! Loved the upgrading element. My only feedback was the game was a little difficult, I just wanted to keep playing without restarting (balancing). Either way, amazing job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, the game is a bit on the difficult side at the moment. If we decide to develop the game further, the curve will steepen a bit more gradually as the lenght of the game is greater. :)

Submitted(+1)

The procedural element allowing a level 3 laser or weapons in 3 directions was really satisfying, only sometimes the larger pelicans(?) would be positioned too far over to the opposite side of where the weapon was facing.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the comment! Yes, currently the game is rather short so the player doesn't have time to build up a large weapon selection, but when dealing with pelicans the Rotator works pretty well as it attacks in all directions :). It of course requires the player to be aware of the egg attack!

Submitted(+1)

You're not kidding XD that difficulty spike be like /\

Submitted(+1)

Neat idea! I'm afraid a lot of the weapons are quite underpowered against the boss, so it would've been more fun if I just had the laser gun the entire time and the game was balanced around that.

Developer

Hey! Yes, the balancing side of the weapons is a bit of a work in progress still! After we recover from the Jam we'll have a look into it. :)

Cheers for the feedback!
