Yes, the enemies do have AI that tells them to jump at a ledge or wall. Your confusion with the goal of the game is understandable, the intent was for it to be a score attack type thing, and that it would be physically impossible to keep the Heroes from reaching the door eventually, taking you further in. However, due to oversights on my part, its very possible to stay in one room forever, thus causing confusion.
Nice AI for jumping! Did you set the path for the enemies (I meant the heroes), or they know when to jump? I'm a little confused. I get point for killings heroes, but I proceed to the next stage if I let them reach the door... So what is the goal of the game?
