Wow! I have no idea how you made such an amazing looking game in just 48 hours - I am a little too bad at this kind of game to get too far, but I like the concept and the execution was great. Great work

Developer

Thank you for your kind words!

The artists worked really hard, I'm very lucky to know them!

Thank you for playing and  hope you enjoyed it :)

Wow! Nice job! I am impressed of the visual presentation.

Sometimes I couldn't see the enemies that should be fixed!

Developer

Thanks you playing!

Amazing what you did there, it looks really nice and plays great. Need to practice a bit more to get the hang of it, but it's a lot of fun and gives you nice possibilities for combat, I enjoyed it!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Certainly had fun stunning then knocking back :D Glad you enjoyed playing!

Great entry, looks gorgeous, and it's fun to take on wave after wave. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed yourself :)

Absolutely beautiful! The only thing that's missing for me is some feedback to let me know if I've hit an enemy or not

Developer

Thank you for playing!

Yeah there is a hit sound but its too quiet to actually hear XD

Submitted(+1)

Wow, the visuals are amazing! You even have cinematics!!

One thing may be lacking: feedback on hit. Even just a small particle effect would have been nice

I submitted a score, where can I see the leaderboard?

Great entry overal

Developer

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed yourself!

Yeah we did put a hit sound effect but didn't mix the levels properly and its not really audible. One of the artists had made an impact particle but I didn't get the time to implement it.

Unfortunately it turns out the code we were for the leaderbaord doesn't work in the WebGL build :( Something about secure https connections but we didn't realise to after uploading. I have a desktop version with working leaderboard but we didn't get it submitted in time so waiting till the end of judging to upload it.

Wow, this game looks great! I fell through the map tho lol

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing!

Yeah that was an issue we didn't have time to fix! But hey ho, that's game jams for ya.

I really like the interplay between sharing health with foes and rewarding aggressive play. While playing cautiously is (as other commenters said) fairly easy, playing to maximize score suddenly makes the game shine, as the defensive tools instead serve to maximize the number of possible foes to slay, and the time limit becomes the real enemy.

Developer

Thank you for playing!

We were really trying to push the trade off between being defensive and getting good scores and having fun. We wanted more mechanics, like using the stun would give the enemies a special attack and that kind of thing but just didn't get time.

Glad you enjoyed yourself! When the Jam is over we'll upload a desktop build with working leaderboard so you can get competitive with that score :D

This game is so so cool! It's so much fun!

Developer

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed yourself!

Very pretty game. I was a little confused on how the arena format was until like the 3rd wave. A timer would have helped with that I think.

Also, I felt like I was getting hit regardless of dodging projectiles. Only the shield stopped damage entirely.

Developer

Thank you for playing! The crystal was intended to also be the timer but that wasn't clear.

The crystals, players and enemies health are all linked so the crystal may have been getting hit

Visually impressive entry! However, as it is, it's easy to find a dominant strategy. I didn't really have an incentive to actually fight the enemies, since just running around, avoiding everything would just leave me and the crystal unscathed. Other than that, with a bit more enemy variety and tweaked numbers, I could definitely see myself pushing for a high score!

Developer

Thank you for playing!  Unfortunately we kinda ran our of time to balance the game but hey, we'd rather it be a bit too easy and people can complete it then too hard and no one sees the end!

Really cool concept and interpretation of the theme! It was really satisfying to run around and shoot stuff. The stun was great to use as well. Beautiful art -- it's amazing that you all created this during a jam!

Developer

Thank you for playing and for your kind words! Glad you enjoyed it!

Cool art style! Was a bit hard to aim, however

Developer

Thank you for playing! The artists always impress me! Happy to have them.

Yeah we tried to go for something a bit different and struggled to get the core gameplay feeling good. But hey, you live you learn and all that.

Very cool game! Nice interpretation of the concept! Amazing art! Not even just for a 48 hour game jam but just in general! The controls were a little difficult to master and I would love to play it with a controller instead I think, but I feel like this could be built into a larger game and would be lots of fun! Great job all around!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm super proud of what the artists managed!

Traditionally we've target gamepad primarily but that backfired for us last year so we didn't prioritise is this year, I think next year we'll try to get both in again!

The game is certainly interesting, giving you lots of tools in your disposal. Simply surviving is easy, but getting a good score is not, so that's nice. I find that enemies are really bad at attacking your crystal, so there's not much incentive to protect it, especially in the later stages. Sometimes my vision gets obstructed when I'm at the bottom of the arena. The knockback mechanic is borderline useless when all enemies are ranged in nature. It's a very interesting game.

Developer

Thank you for playing! The knockback mechanic is meant to be combined with the stun for a longer lasting wall-stun but we didn't really tutorialise it very well.

If we were to do it again I think we'd make some different choices but hey! :D

Very nice concept! I found myself following a strategy of just following the crystal and shielding every once in a while, as the enemies bullets would usually miss the crystal, especially in larger arenas. This made it so I didn't really have to worry about my health or the other enemies all that much. Might be something to look into. Other than that though, the graphics and music were great, the concept has a lot of potential for strategy and expansion, and it's very well made. Great work!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! Game balance was just one of those things we ran out of time to really get right, but that's true of all GameJams really!!

Submitted(+1)

I understand! Level design and game balance are more time consuming than anything in my experience. I'd love to see this project fleshed out more to reach its full potential!

Developer

Absolutely! And adding new art or mechanics is always more fun than balancing difficulty!!!

Submitted(+1)

This is literally the best game in the jam. Excellent job

Developer

Oh wow, thank you! That means a lot to the team!

Submitted(+1)

Somehow I made 83000 score :D
Really enjoyed graphics and music, very well done!

Developer

Nice! Once the voting is other and the leaderboards can go online,  we'd be interested to see the scores people can get! Thank you!

Amazing art, very well polished. Simple gameplay but the art sells it all, kudos.

Developer

Thank you very much for the kind comment!

The modelling and art are absolutely fantastic for a game made in 48 hours! Everything is so detailed, and it sells the fantasy mage setting super well. The running animation is especially well done; I appreciate the subtle difference between running and backpedalling. From a design perspective, enjoyed that the playing area grew over time to ramp up the difficulty and the use of the theme linking everyone's health as a resource.

My feedback is mostly around design. Running felt fantastic because it was fast and matched the pace of the combat and music, but the bullets were slow by comparison (by diagonally strafing I was almost going as fast as the bullets). Since the bullets were slow, it was hard to hit enemies without being rather close to them. I also never used the shield because I never felt like I was in danger, mostly because I could just outpace the bullets by running.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! Yes, we agree that there is a lot we can do to improve the combat. Getting the balance right would help bring out the design too! But this is just a symptom of such a short GameJam unfortunately.
