Very fun game! Haven't seen this kind of mixing up 2D and 3D in a while. Interesting idea on how to make player change characters. Nice experience overall

Great submission! I love the art style and the game was a lot of fun to play!

Fun concept and great to play! I like the combination of the 2D and 3D art styles, nice job!

Quite solid, fairly satisfying to play. Not sure how I feel about the billboard sprites that can rotate to be invisible from the camera, but I guess it works.

The movement and shooting feels good, the weapons and enemies seem well balanced. Overall the experience is pretty well polished.

My primary criticism would probably be that the ranged attacks from the blob/ghost type characters aren’t telegraphed and their projectiles seem to fire before the animation starts, which makes going close to them a gamble unless you’ve been keeping a very close eye on when they shot last and can keep time well in your head.

Really well done!

Heyo! I'll be playing Crash-o-nauts tomorrow on stream along with several other games from the GMTK jam at 3:30pm EST. I hope to see you there for a good chat about design and development! :)

Hey darz! I already had a reminder set UwU

The game was really fun, my only complaint would be the sound effect that happens when one of the astronauts has recovered the full ammo

Developer

yes it sounds bad in the web version bc of webgl compression, it's better in the windows version

Very funny and unique art style, liked the combat too! Automatic much better than the shotgun! :P

I loved the art and perspective. I think it is also very cool that you are forced to switch between characters instead of just using your favorite all the time. Really nice game!

Cool art style, nice implementation of a twinstick shooter!  Would love to see more connection between the two characters, but I like their unique weapons.

Fun!  Also cute.  I thought the 2d-3d was very interesting though I'm really bad at dodging in that situation :D  I wasn't sure whether the sound effect was interrupting the music or that was just the music... I think it interrupted when you charged up or something?  Was a little distracting given all else going on.
Overall really neat concept / great job!  I'm with another commenter it might have been nice for the pickups to have an effect other than that you're rebuilding your ship to win if you make it to that point.
Thanks very much for the experience!  Cheers.

the music thing is probably an issue with webgl, sounds get compressed a bit too much, it should be good in the windows version :) as for the pieces, i wanted to add an effect but i couldn't make it in time. Thanks for the feedback!

I loved the presentation and the core gameplay loop, some power ups would have added a lot and its a slightly weak link to the prompt but an overall great game, would love to see more stuff in this style

I enjoyed the art and the concept but would have enjoyed a scoring system or knowing what was the aim to win.

Developer

hi! It's written in the tutorial screen :) you have to collect all the spaceship pieces, there's 5 of them and they appear after you clear a horde. There's no scoring system because the number of enemies is set

I really enjoyed this game, but I can't figure out exactly what I liked about it? It felt like it was the exact right length to showcase the mechanics, even if those mechanics aren't all too complex. This game just feels good to execute - moving around and shooting enemies. The sound effects add to it well; and the music choice fits perfectly. The sprites are cute as hell.

One small thing is that while the camera tilt and the 2d-in-3d environment is really stylish (especially the sprite flips), I noticed that the controls were slightly inaccurate because of the camera tilt. It wasn't anything too bad, but this is definitely something to think about.

The tag-team-to-swap mechanic isn't wholly original, but it's been implemented in a very  satisfying way in this game. Good work!

Game controls really tightly and is challenging! It's not terribly complicated but I did really appreciate the strategy of getting used to swapping out in between the characters to reload the other when they are inactive, encourages active attention to the ammo gauges even when enemies are not around (Sitting around with a half empty gauge is no good when it could be reloading!)

I tried a few times and couldn't get to the "end" and I don't know if there even is one. Maybe there could be some kind of tracker for how many spaceship parts you've collected and how much further before the end? That is assuming it isn't an endless wave of course.

Developer

there is an end! Looking back, I should've added a difficulty selection. It's easy for me but your own game is always easy since you're the one who made it. Definitely adding one post jam :) as for the swapping strategy, that's exactly what I wanted, forcing the player to manage ammo both when fighting and when idle.

bro this time u did something big, I had so much fun playing this and it was very challenging and enjoyable :)

Hey this was really easy to pick up! I really liked the game, I liked the flame thrower guy because I could pew pew up close. I think one cool mechanic you could add would be collectables only one of them can pick up (color coded things maybe). But yeah real fun. Also the 2D 3D was a really good look.

I found it hard to aim, the colours of the UI could have been better picked.
