This was fun!  I really liked this game, the machine gun, and the slow-motion on level completion was great too.

I think you have something fun here, and with a little more polish you'll have made a great game!  I suggest you add more "juiciness" -- I'm not sure exactly how though haha.  Maybe you can add some flashing lights along with the slow motion effect.  Also, maybe you can add a split second pause on the frames when an enemy is killed.

In any case, great job.  I had fun playing!

Nice game. It's lots of fun. Love the audio and graphics.

Cool concept, i love how it gives a whole extra dimension to weapon choice.

Submitted

Neat concept, forcing you to balance offense and evasion! Controls are tight, too. My only suggestion might be as other people here have mentioned - some more iframes after being hit, because I seemed to die pretty much instantly from any enemy contact.

Submitted

Really cool concept but I think the melee enemies kill you too fast. The player could maybe become invincible for a second after being hit or something similar to prevent you from dying so quickly but great game overall.

Good idea. I first thought that the idea of having health decreasing when shooting would be borring, but the fact that you can recover them is brilliant !
Liked the music too, the hi-hats were catchy !

The only critic would be that the enemies deal too much damage. Having an invicible frame when shot would have been nice :)

Super cool that your weapon is your life ! super cool twist on the main theme :-)
The AI could be a bit smarter when it comes to melee enemies because you can block them against blocks to take your life back.
I was curious as well if taking all your bullets back (with the automatic gun) gives you all your health back.
Nice entry :)

Thanks for playing!

I wanted to implement pathfinding, but after 2 hours fighting it to subpar results I decided to go with very basic stuff, even if it would be subpar. Lesson learned, I need to sort out 2D pathfinding instead of keeping pushing it back.

Recovering bullets only gives back the health you expended on them.

I like the game, but maybe some occasional life drops would be useful as it is unforgivin when you get hit. If that is the point that you are bound to die as each level gets harder, it is really good! Movement-wise, it is a bit hard to change direction and player is slow. All in all, great game!

Thanks for playing!

Balance was not something I had to long to work on, but I did plan on the game being hard, especially given it's short and low-replayability gameplay.

Good idea and I liked chiptune. Well done!

I'm playing on a trackpad at the moment, so I didn't get very far. But I really liked how you included cover elements, they really helped with retrieving my lifeblood and making it feel fair.

Well done on a great game!

I really liked the game. I wish the cooldown for the bullets was a little faster. But It was really well executed over all. A nice amount of enemy variety too.

cool idea! fetching bullets makes game more fun and engaging:) good job!

Submitted

Super cool idea! It makes it more intense having to go fetch your bullet back. It's a cool idea, you should work on it some more~ Super neat entry to the jam! Please check out mine when you have time.

Interesting concept! I wish that the bullets either did more damage to the enemies or there were more bullets to shoot. Cool idea! Makes you think about resource management! Great job!

Fun: I liked it! I wish the bullets could hit multiple enemies, that would add two thing: you could try to bounce the bullets off multiple enemies and you can try to lead them into your earlier shot bullets. I also wish

Originality: Nice idea and take on the theme!

Presentation: The art was ok, I feel like having different enemy types having different colors would make it easier to tell the difference.

Overall: Fun Game!

Thanks a lot for playing!

The bullets hitting multiple enemies would be neat indeed. In the heat of the moment I went for "when the bullets hit something they bounce off and become pickup-able", but there was probably a better solution to be found given more time.

As for the graphics, they're definitely not the best, but they came in very late as a result of coding going slower than I planned, so I had to make some quick decisions to save time.

I loved the concept and the execution was simple and clean. One thing I would suggest is to refill the player's health completely each round and delete the bullets on the ground. Otherwise, you will eventually run out of health hit by hit, even if you play well with your bullets.

Two types of guns was a nice touch as well.

Clean, well-rounded, and well-thought-out!

Developer

Thanks!

While I do like that you can get whittled down over time (thereby also decreasing your bullet supply), I think picking up the bullets automatically between waves would have been good, especially for the automatic weapon, which is a bit of a hassle to use right now.

a solid game and quite the fun.

maybe a small cooldown or invaulnerability when you take damage might be nice because you almost insta die if they catch up.

great work!

That is a solid base to expand upon.

I liked the concept of health = ammo, definitely worth expanding on. Gameplay was fun as well

Developer

Thanks! For the next couple of days I'll be taking a breather, but I'm definitely considering continuing work on it after the voting period.

fun
