This one was amazing, the narrative was so well put together! I dont wanna spoil things for people reading the comments before playing but the mechanics really delivered on the message of the game. Super well made with amazing graphics and a really good music choice!

Developer

Considering how amazing YOUR game is, this really means a lot. Thank you so much for playing (and for not spoiling) and I'm very glad you enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this. The thru-story was emotionally engaging (although, you [unintentionally?] gave me a jump scare at a certain point), and I always find it satisfying when a narrative is woven into the mechanics (something that culminated, for me, on a certain puzzle [attempting to not spoil stuff.])

Developer

Thank you so much for playing, and thanks for not giving the game away. The jump scare was unintentional, as you say. It made Jess, the artist, jump and so we turned down the volume about 10 mins before submission and never got around to retesting. I'm really glad you enjoyed the game though, and the story.

This is really good, story is nice!, Although not the most original of ideas in terms of gameplay, I sitll enjoyed it. Great job

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and I'm really glad you liked it.

Wow. That is the most emotional game jam game I've ever played. Wonderful hard-hitting story that ties in well with the gameplay. Thank you for making this!

Developer(+1)

This really means a lot, to hear that the story and the emotion works. Thank you so much for this feedback. I'm really glad you played and enjoyed.

Just wow! Beautiful narrative. So emotional I almost cried. Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much! It means so much to me that the story is working for people. Thank you for playing.

Great game! The narrative is so lovely and despite being a pretty used idea to controll two caracters, I think the story and way you choose to display gives a touch that makes this stand out against the others. Great job! (that message about shift made me so confused, I thought I was supposed to press shift, but it was control. And the text in the box was also hard to understand, so maybe make those things more clear would improve it for new players).

Developer

As the creator of one of my favourite games that I've played this Jam, your nice message means a lot. I really appreciate you playing and I'm very glad you liked it. Also, thanks for your feedback. I've gone back into the game to find where it says "shift". What I think has happened is that there's the word "Switch" that is bolded, and probably misread. If that's not the case, please let me know because I'm keen to make this easy to understand and play. Thanks again for your comment.

Submitted

I've played it again and I misread it, my bad! And thanks for the compliments!

The presentation of this game is exceptional and the puzzles are really cool, didn't expected this :) Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing, and I'm so glad you liked it. It genuinely means a lot.

I really love this game, one of the puzzle-platformer game that gets its pacing right! From the relaxing piano, the simplistic art to the slight difficulty curve of the puzzle, the 2-frame animations, the poetic story, it is more of a soothing experience than something action-packed, and I really love it. There's no complaint here, except for the lack of restart button when I did something wrong. Good job!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks so much for playing, and I'm really glad you enjoyed. Also, in case you play again, r restarts the level. If you didn't make it to the end, I'd really recommend it.

This game is so beautiful and poetic, good job ! The gameplay mechanic is also really well done, as well as the art !

Developer

Thank you so much for playing. Jess did the art and was simply amazing.

Beautiful game! The story is really touching and integrated well into the gameplay.
It has great atmospgere, I love the art you've made for this.

One thing I think could be improved is that you should still be able to connect a character to something if they are inactive.

Amazing Job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing, and I'm really glad you liked the story. It really means a lot to me that it has connected with people. You also should be able to connect inactive characters, but then again the connection has been a little fiddly in the submitted build so there's every chance it is being a pain. Thank you again for your comment.

Beautiful art and excellent mood setting. I enjoyed it tremendously. One thing I'm not sure about is why you have to switch between characters, maybe mapping one wasd and the other arrows might work as well?

Also, you might want to display the hints at level start after restart as well, or implement them as visual aid into the levels themselves. I was stuck for a fairly long time on one level, because I had forgotten the hint. But honestly, those are nitpicks.

Overall a fantastic job, really. Are you going to explore/polish the game in the future?

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing and for the feedback. That's really good advice about going back to the text at the start of the level when you restart. They're mostly not clues, but some serve that way, so it's something I'm implement when I'm allowed.

This game is polished very well and I really enjoyed it, especially its pacing. Having the abilities change as I progress is quite a fresh experience. The text at the end of each level pushes me to clear the next and I have no regret doing it.

Great job on the game!

Developer(+1)

I'm very glad you liked it, and that the story kept pushing your forwards. I appreciate your review.

Big fan of the hand drawn art and one of the few games where I really enjoyed the story!

Developer

I'm so glad you liked the story (I'm really proud of it) and that Jess' art is getting lots of praise. She's truly great.

Wow, doing something this deep and with strong design and mechanics to back it up is really ambitious with a game jam, and you did it perfectly. This hits hard and has no major compromises on quality or gameplay, fantastic job all around!

There are some small things like getting the connection functionality to be less finicky at times, but that's just trying to nitpick. Absolutely loved this start to finish :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for this praise. It really means a lot how much you liked the game. You're also not the first to mention that fiddly connection, and it's first on the fixing list. Thanks for playing; it means the world.

Very beautiful story. The art is very cute and well rounded and the music fit well with the ambiance.

Great work :)

Developer

Thank you so much for playing. The art was all thanks to Jess, who did an incredible job.

Hey matey, neat little game! I really love the story, and the monster death got me good. The only technical feedback I have is that it was a bit confusing whether you clicked you then the box, or box then you to join stuff. Furthermore, I think this could be a single click, like you click the box, then there's only one character you can click next (depending on whether object is in reality or dream world) so maybe just skip that step to make it simpler?

And getting critical here, I feel like the mechanics could have been deeper, like at the end where you swap to monster, that really only increased the jump height, a very binary thing, why wouldn't you swap to monster? There could be some consequences of each character. And with the coop stuff at the start, it somehow didn't feel coop. Like they were pulling levers for each other, but the characters could probably interact more? Like when the two were joined, I'd guessed I could make one of them float by standing on ground with the other, possibly allowing them to do puzzly things. And this builds upon the connection mechanic, adding some nuance of of how far apart do you want the objects, and how to position them? So I just think the mechanics could've been deeper for more puzzly moments.

Anyways, really nice game, particularly the story beats and art! I believe this was your first jam, so congrats!

Developer

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback. You raise lots of points were ideas we had during the weekend but didn't have time to implement. For example, we were going to have it so that you have to walk across the void, but if you were connected and the other person was on the ground, you wouldn't fall. But all great ideas!

Beautiful game, smart use of the gameplay,  smooth take on the theme. Keep it up !

Developer

Thank you so much for playing!

Great game, good idea and realization. Although if i were to suggest anything. I would make some kind of indication  when the monster is sleeping (slow and jumps low) and when not. And also I was struggling with level where the  player looses his monster, the level is reall simple, but i thought that in all levels to finish them monster and player have to get to the end. Anyway thanks for interesting game!

Thanks for playing and thanks for your feedback!

Music is Calming, but i got stuck in one of the further levels, even thought i'm not really good at puzzle games i liked this one, good job on finishing in the due time!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Would it be possible to know where you got stuck? Perhaps I can help.

A really amazing game with an emotional and heartwarming story. I extremely like the artwork which perfectly fits into the theme and the music is superb, creating a calm and soothing atmosphere. Well done!

But I do have to point out that there is one little issue that the clicking-and-bonding is not so responsive. Sometimes I have to click multiple times before I can connect myself and my monster or the chest. Also, the single white line is not very visually noticeable. I think it would be better to use a more artistic way to present the line.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this great game a lot. Satisfying presentations and level designs. And I wonder what you have in mind "my monster" stands for when you designed your game. Is it our beloved ones(parents, kids, lovers, friends)? Or is it our alter ego? (our past self has helped us grown and gone through those obstacles)

Developer

Thanks so much for playing and thanks for the feedback. The clicking responsiveness never came up in playtesting, but you're not the first to mention it.

Also, we have a clear idea of what the monster is (the end screen is a clue) but it was also designed to be a little vague so that people could add their own spin on it.
