Took me embarrasingly long to figure out the game wasn't just a 2d view of a map. I should have looked at the screenshots i suppose 8)

Absolutely beautiful visual style and intriguing gameplay. I don't have anything negative to say about this one.

Developer(+1)

Hahaha, I'm glad you managed to figure out how to close the map after all! Thank you for the kind words!

Really good controls for a 3-D game jam game! I do wish it was a bit clearer on how the pieces fit together, or maybe that we could get more pieces of the map by walking around? Otherwise it's a cool idea!

Developer (3 edits) (+2)

Thanks for the feedback!

I feel this isn't very clearly communicated but the idea is that the pieces don't fit together.  The pieces are torn out of maps from different periods and of different scales so the goal is to figure out the right scale, rotation and position of a piece to fit the map in your possession.

Lovely art style, movement could be a bit faster <3

Thanks for playing and your feedback!

Cute little game! Seems that my spatial awareness is not that good tho ahah!

Developer(+2)

Thanks and remember that even a true pirate sometimes gets lost at sea :D

This game brings some fresh air in the jam! Very original in many sense!
Combined with sick art and sfx it makes this entry a good candidate for winning!
Cute and adorable with interesting exploration mechanics, combined with puzzle elements... Or puzzle mechanics with puzzle elements... You've got an idea...

Developer

Thank you for playing. I'm glad that you enjoy it. :D

I love this game, I find the map guessing really satisfying and spend quite a lot of time figure out were the element went. Nonetheless I have a really bad score 18/48 XD

Developer(+1)

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed our game!

Don't worry about the score too much, I'm like 98% sure we overtuned the scoring a little bit in the last minutes of the jam...

Submitted(+2)

Wow this was cute! Haven’t seen many exploration games this jam, so it was quite refreshing to see a slower paced entry. I’m behind you with the lack of a sprint button, however with things like environmental storytelling, collectibles, or easter eggs, it could have seemed less time consuming to get around if you had more things to look at :) Gorgeous art, both the 2D and the 3D, props to everyone that worked on it , great job. Also… Where do I see my score? Am I dumb?

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!!! You can see your score after completing the map and pressing the spacebar, then you have to go to X and dig up the treasure.

Submitted(+2)

damn maybe i just didnt complete the map then :( a progress-bar and some more IQ points for me would have helped this, I’ll have another try!

Submitted(+2)

really nice, lovely art. Got a score of 27 B)

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! I think you're tied for the top score among commenters right now :)

Submitted(+2)

Very cute game! A sprint key would have been nice since the player movement could feel a little slow within the big island but otherwise very very nice!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Glad you liked it!

I'm to blame for being against putting sprint in the game. I feel like we didn't need it since there's no rush and I didn't want the player running from point A to point B but rather take in what the island has to offer.

Increasing the overall move speed (when not using the compass) is definitely something to consider, thanks!

Enjoyable mapping game, got to a score of 27. Finding the positions and rotations and things was relatively smooth, the compass was a useful tool, which is a nice feeling to capture. I was quite bad at measuring scale on objects without attachments to terrain/other objects (the tree/the rocks).

Nice looking environment, chill wave sounds, could have used a bit of music. I’m not sure how influential being a dog was on the game, but I enjoyed knowing that I was one.

Also, nice to see another game on the same line of thinking as mine :).

Developer

Thanks for playing

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the detailed feedback!

As for how influential it was for the player character to be a dog I can't really speak for it. We got the idea early on and we thought it was fun enough so we just went with it. The idea was to have a little bit more of dog-related SFX but we just didn't have the time.

A lot of the lore for the Furrtune Island was very dog-related though.

Will have to give your game a go! I see that you were a little bit smarter than us and prepared a WebGL build. A lesson for future game jams!

Submitted(+2)

Absolutely the dog thing was not a problem, sorry :). I do like the lore, and it is fun, I just was perplexed and I wrote about it for too long.

Yeah WebGL is pretty major for these, a lot of people pass by non web games which I experienced in the past. I used Godot for the first time in a GMTK jam this year and it was mostly painless on web, can recommend.

Submitted(+2)

love it! pretty hard. i only got 23 points on my second try. but i love the concept, love the visuals and its funny that the character is a dog  :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for giving it a go! Nice to hear that people find it amusing that the character is a dog.  We almost cut it and went with a regular pirate to save some time on making the hand assets

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Maybe we set the difficulty level a little bit too high ;D

Submitted(+2)

I didn't realize we could check our score at the X and closed the game :') The style is really cute though

Developer

You can always give the game another shot. Thanks for playing.

Submitted(+2)

Man I thought I did so well lmao. Love how the direction between the 2 landmarks are usually one of the 8 main directions on the compass to help guide the player. Top notch design. I recommend adding a sprint key though since the map is quite big.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!. We will improve the game after the voting is over.

Submitted(+2)

Nice concept! I cannot play it because I am getting motion sickness T_T

Developer

Thanks for playing

The environment is just awesome. The island is just a vibe and the outline shaders on everthing just make them pop so much. Definetely one of my favorite games artistically.

Developer

Thank you!

Cute style and fun idea.

I was so proud of myself until I saw the score :D

I love the artstyle by the way, looks very polished. Enjoyed the little adventure too!

I loved the visuals so I wanted to try it, but my potato pc keeps lagging a lot lol. This looks pretty neat, good job on that!

Thank you
