the whole theming for this game was really creative and i liked it a lot even if i don't understand music theory and how it translates into the enemies and weapons in the game.

the presentation was really good to, all the enemies looked really animated and expressive (although as others have mentioned, the blur effect is a bit extreme). the music and sound effects were also really nice and i loved how they were incorporated into the game's theme.

i also enjoyed the constantly switching weapons. though i honestly didn't notice a difference for most of the modifiers, maybe they could have been made more extreme. i also found it hard to aim, i think due to the perspective and the really long cursor. maybe it would be better if instead of a cursor, there was a glowing circle on the ground that shows where you're shooting.

but yeah, this was great. you did a fantastic job

Developer

Thank you so much! Yeah, I've definitely learned to make options to either reduce or disable things like the depth of field effect. In regards to the modifiers, we'll definitely follow what you said and try to see what else we can do with them to be more interesting; possibly we tried a bit too hard to keep them true to what they actually do in music lol. Aiming was something that was mostly personal preference, thanks for letting me know and I'll definitely consider more accessibility options for future projects. Thank you again for playing!

Mozart needs to stop spamming healing. Other than that I liked this game a lot.

Developer

Haha I guess Mozart got lucky with his attack rolls. Hopefully that didn't affect your experience too much, thanks for playing!

Presentation was off the charts, I'd love it if you could share the tracks in the game on YT or Soundcloud; it was really great stuff!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing, was an honour and also extremely entertaining for me to watch you play it on stream. My teammate actually just released the soundtrack on Youtube, you can listen to it here!

A shooter based on music theory note values is such a bizarre concept, I love it! It reminds me of some of the wacky guns you can get in Enter the Gungeon. I highly encourage you to explore this idea further, because there's a lot you can do with it, and you've already implemented it in lot of creative ways. Personally, I would love to see a game like this when an adaptive soundtrack, you know, because it's music-themed, but of course that's not realistic for a jam game and the music was pretty great anyhow.

I would've preferred if there was a tutorial that showcased all of the different note values and expressions and what effects they have, it would've made the game more engaging having a further grip on what's going on.

Anyway, very whimsical and very fun, great work!

Developer(+1)

Haha we wanted to try to stay true to the original dice game inspiration as much as possible but we also strayed a bit from it in order to create something more modern and fun, I'm glad you enjoyed what we came up with! Definitely would've been cool to have an adaptive soundtrack but man possibly only for a post-jam expansion, lol. Showcasing the different notes and modifiers during the tutorial actually is a really good idea; I might try creating something like that after the jam if I still have energy. Thanks so much for playing and the feedback!

Great art and music. Love the little otamatone character and the noises it makes.

Not sure I enjoyed the filter effect with the blurring though. Hurt my eyes a little.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing! A lot of the post processing effects were set to personal preferences; very sorry about hurting your eyes. I'll definitely remember to add features to adjust or disable these effects in future projects.

Wunderbar

I really enjoyed my time with this. The twinstick shooter genre is very popular, but you made several smart decisions to stand out from that crowd. Well done! The 2.5 perspective made me apprehensive at first, but it works really well and I never felt like my shots missed unfairly. The theme is also really unique. But it's also my one gripe - I'm not musically inclined, so a lot of the notation and translation to gameplay was lost on me. I mostly remembered the enemy types, but the attack effects combined with modifiers were completely lost on me. It might have been nice to have a small reminder text pop up in addition to the name like "-speed, +dmg" or "split attack" when changing attacks/modifiers. But that's really just a nitpick. The game is straight-forward enough that the player can adapt to changes with minimal difficulty.

That aside, the controls feel good, the length is perfect, and the scope is right on the money for a jam game. Well done, team. Easily one of the top games I've played so far.

Keep making cool games!

Developer

Danke! Very happy most of what we intended with design worked out for you. We tried super hard to make sure the game could still be understood by those that aren't so musically inclined; we originally intended for weapons and modifier effects to be "discovered" and learned by the player from experimentation and curiosity, that's definitely something we can play around with and modify in the future (But I also agree brief text popups were probably a good idea). Thanks so much for playing and the great feedback!

Enjoyed playing this one a lot! I loved just how different it was compared to other submissions. Plus, I finally got to fulfill my dream of fighting Mozart to death

Developer

Isn't fighting Mozart to death every young person's dream? Jokes aside thank you so much for the kind words and playing!

really like this game. as a musician myself i really enjoyed how this game worked. I've play a lot of these kind of rogue like games in this game jam but this was honestly a really nice different approach to it that made me apricate what you had in this game. very nice game :)

Developer

Super glad you enjoyed it from a musician's perspective! Thanks so much for playing!

Really good game but I don't think description of modifiers should be in page info, they should be in game itself with some short description when you roll them. Also while blur effect is nice and fitting for normal battle, with boss battle, boss is almost always blurred which isn't good, you may try to play around that. + dice always spawn in same positions which isn't always good, sometime they stuck in the corner and stay here, that's not fun and prone to die not rolling and just giving same effect.

Overal that's solid game tho

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! The original idea we had was for players to learn what modifiers and weapons did by experimenting and playing around with them in game instead of being explicitly told what they did; just in case someone was impatient we included descriptions on the page, however we tried really hard to avoid throwing walls of information at the player. In regards to the depth of field effect, yeah we definitely noticed that, I was going to find a way to blend/change post processing effects when the boss appears but I didn't get enough time. For the dice, spawning where it was before was our intention because I personally felt it boring if they were predictable and spawned in the same place every time, I liked the challenge of remembering where the dice were before and have to think in case you don't want what you have rerolled by an enemy; although I guess that created the issue that you had. Thanks so much for playing!

Submitted

Super fun game! I love the music and all of that. I also love that you managed to do cutscenes.
When I played the dice didn't seem to spawn enough to really make that mechanic work super well. I also think some explanations of the powerups would be nice. Overall, great game with great music and art!

Developer

Thank you so much! I have the artist to thank for making the art for the cutscenes. The dice spawning interval was mostly a personal preference, I liked having a relatively big gap between spawns so I would have time to learn and play around with what combination I was given, and possibly remember for next time, but I'll definitely play around with it and see what works best in the future. Regarding the powerups, we really wanted to try to get the same feeling as you would discovering a new item in a roguelike, where you become curious and start learning what it does by trying it yourself and experimenting. Again thanks so much for the feedback!

This game is so fun to play, ontop of a creative idea and a rockin soundtrack

Developer

Thank you for playing! Glad what we ended up making was both creative and fun for you.

Submitted

Amazing!

There was so much polish and the art and style was on point. I absolutely loved it.

I would have liked a little explaination on what each weapon and modifier did and also it would have been cool if the notes you fire were the same pitch as the music.

Really, really cool. I hope you make more of this!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and the feedback! I definitely thought about including an explanation for modifiers within the game but I really wanted to stay true to the original idea where the player would learn for themselves what things did and recognize what combinations they liked and which ones they didn't. We also originally planned to have sounds synced or harmonized with the music, but the soundtrack ended up being more complicated than I anticipated so we unfortunately scrapped that idea. Thanks so much for playing again, I'll definitely see to revisiting this in the future!

This game is wild, very pretty for a 48 hour

Developer

Haha I have a bit of a problem where I obsess over how my games look. Thanks and we're glad you enjoyed it!

Cool game idea !! Nice graphics and i think you nailed the atmosphere and music effects, the animations were neat too  , Good Stuff Overall !!

Developer

Thanks so much! I'm very grateful I got to make this with my artist and musician.

Glad to see someone else turning old games to video games. But you even turned it into something completely new. Very cool idea and it felt already very polished! :)

Developer(+1)

Haha same to you! I always wanted to incorporate some music theory related mechanics into a game, so we got pretty lucky when we learned of Musikalisches Würfelspiel. We feared we might have strayed a bit too far from the inspiration, but I'm very glad it worked out in the end. Thanks so much for playing and we're glad you enjoyed it!

as flawless as one of mozart's pieces., Great art, great gameplay, and great music. Just excellent across the board.

Developer

Lol I wouldn't say our game was flawless but I'm glad you had a good time with it! I know I definitely started listening to more Mozart after making this. Thanks so much for playing and the kind words!

Submitted

This was amazing. What a great full game! Super polished and great fun. Excellent work everyone!

Developer

Thank you! We're happy you enjoyed it!

That was really fun, and I loved that there was a boss at the end (always impressed by that in a jam game). I think I was a little confused about the modifiers, but I was able to figure it out via experimentation most of the time.  I liked the little musical touches as well, like the reactive string sounds and the half notes splitting into two quarter notes on death. Good job!

Developer

When we decided to keep that boss in we feared people wouldn't like his grotesque appearance but seems like we were wrong haha. I'm honestly really happy that the modifiers worked as intended and you learned about them via experimenting, but there's definitely a lot more work we could've done to improve that feature. Thanks so much for playing and the feedback!

THIS GAME IS SO FREAKING NEAT!!!!!!! I love the otomotone noises, I love the smoooooooth aesthetic, I LOVE MEGA MOZART, this game really swept me away. I had a really fun time and the pacing was great, the game did not overstay its welcome. The music was AWESOME, but my only real criticism is that when enemies died they played a really sharp violin sting that felt pretty discordant from the music and made the music sound a little worse. Other than that though, no criticisms, this is really one of the best games I've played yet!

Developer

Haha, I think we had a conversation about this but Mega Mozart was originally designed as a joke, and we kept it in anyway. Very happy he made the experience more enjoyable for you! We definitely originally planned to have the sound effects sync and harmonize more with the music, but with how complicated our composer made the soundtrack it was way too difficult to not make it clash with the music, unfortunately. Thanks so much for playing, we're happy to have the honour of being one of your favourites!

Submitted

The sound effects are something I cannot even describe, couldn't stop laughing.  The game feels really well made and polished, real professional work! I didn't expect a boss fight but was pleasantly surprised. It's simple but very very well made.

Developer

As I've said before in previous replies, I had a ton of fun making stupid sounds with my otamatone and playing them in game. We're glad you enjoyed our game and thank you for playing!
