I literally just registered on the site JUST so I could comment on what a wonderful job you did here! The adherence to style, the evolution of the style, and the decently unexpected ending that put a literal smile on my face :D
Also A+ on the Megaman references too :)
Thank you so much! If I could make you smile my mission is completed :)
loved it. Nice art, nice spin on the theme. I got so much Mega man vibe when the evolotion from on to another figure is made between the levels :)
Thanks! Megaman IS the NES era for me atleast. It's a big inspiration for everyone on the team.
*Mwaaah*, you're getting a huge kiss for that one. When it changed to modernity (didn't see the screenshots first) I got so excited, and it didn't take long for me to go from not liking the first levels to loving them, due to the role they play in the story.
Life was so much simpler back then. There were dangers, sure, but for some reason it was still way more serene. Those tasks you did back as a fish and a legfish that seemed so banal and overly easy to be stimulating, those just pales in comparison to data entry. You're basically worse than a prehistoric fish sitting in that cubicle.
The elevator scene was a good one. That simple interaction ("...") told me so much about the character, apart from the excellent body language in the animations.
I want this to be a grander, longer game, maybe 45-90 minutes or something, with maybe non-linear time (going back and forth) and use both the arcade platformer style as a intermission/moodsetter until you're back to the more social/storytelling part. Anyway, excellent work!
Games to maybe take inspiration from:
Thank you! I'm happy the story resonated with you in this way. We might come back to this title and explore the theme even more eventually. Thank you for the tips. I have not tried Simulacra or Emily is away too but I'll make sure to play them now.
Wowow!!! This was incredible! I loved all of the artwork throughout the entire game and was so delighted in the different styles for each stage of evolution! Not only that but the music was such a hit and I loved how in the last level you had the tune come back as a little tune from the computer in a new sound!
The variety was also present in the gameplay that I thought was wonderful throughout the game and made for such a fun and pleasant game experience! (: Awesome work!!
Thank you! That means a lot! I'm so proud of how well the music turned out.
Very cute game! I liked the ending. I'm only surprised that the eggs hurt me even when they lie on the ground - maybe make them more menacing? Not a real issue though once I figured it out.
Thank you for your feedback! The second stage could definetly have been better at telling the player what is dangerous and what isnt. Happy you enjoyed the game :)
Woaw, congratulation you win!
No but really, this is amazing : the music, the graphics, everything...
I restarted to see if I could avoid going out with Eva from work but she kept spam texting while i was working haha :)
Thank you so much! That would have been a fun alternative ending: Ignore your friends and work... forever!!!
Looks more like a tiny and released indie game than a jam game XD.
The game is very immersive and relaxing, the graphics are wonderful and the mechanics combine too much with the purpose.
For the time we have, It's really impressive and, by heart, I would love for this project to continue.
For me, It's a 5/5 game.
Congrats.
Thank you! It makes me so happy to hear that you enjoyed it.
Nice game and good wrap up of the theme :)
Eggs scare me now (the hit boxes sometimes got bigger than probably intended)
Thank you kindly! Eggs can be devious with their hit boxes, just as in real life :o
Goodness. I need to stand up from my desk... and go find some shrimp.
Fantastic work. The evolution of the artistic styles was a wonderful touch. My only regret is the friend not jumping into the water with me. We BOTH needed a good re:Evolution!
Thank you! I'm happy as a shrimp for your nice comment.
Nice existential trip. I like the spritework, the animations are really nice. The tune is catchy and sounds authentic, and really cool it evolves. Personally I prefer the 'in grid' rendering of sprite rotation and such, but that's just me. Nice title!
Thank you! I like the look of in grid rendering too for that authentic feel maybe next time :)
5 out 5 in all categories. I loved every stage and every moment of every stage in this game. The art work is sublime. The sounds are amazing. The story... Oh the animation! This game gives generously and just keeps on going. If my games had half the ideas (let alone be as well implemented) as this game I would be a very very happy monkey. I want this game to win the jam more than I want to feed my kids! Well done! Thank you so much for raising the bar for the rest of us. You people are on another level! Wow!
I don't know what to say. Those were some high praise. Thank you so much.
Reject humanity, go back to kicking fish.
Really cool game, I love the artstyle (and the human part is very relatable)!
I think you got the gist of it ;)
Thank you for enjoying the game.
This game is very enjoyable and meaningful. It makes one gives thought about one's life. As a living thing, we are all still eager to have something, no matter it is shrimps or kicking butts. Perhaps this is life, we are all driven by desire.
Thank you. That was really well written.
Loved this game, definitely my favorite from this jam so far! Nice idea designing the levels in the shape of the earth. Art and animations were very cool in all stages and the music was very nice as well. I'll definitely look at the first and second stages as inspiration for pixel art the next time I'm making a game. What software did you use for making the third stage assets?
I'm happy you liked it. I used Clip Studio Paint for the rotoscope animation and Photoshop for everything else.
I really liked the humor of this game. From fist straight to karate fish. Obviously you evolve from kicking vegetables.
Obviously ;)
Thanks for your kind words.
Amazing game!! Really loved the narrative element and the gameplay variety, especially in the kicking section where you can kill the owl with its own egg, really unexpected but I loved it. The music and art style fit the game perfectly and are utilised really well. Great work.
Thank you! I'm happy you liked it. The kicking part is my personal favourite.
Great game, great interpretation of the theme, great music. Probably the game I've enjoyed most this jam.
Thank you! That means a lot.
wow, great! i love the way you adapted the theme and the round design of the levels. the artwork is also very nice!
as soon as you have legs, the hitbox of the player is a bit too wide i think, did not manage to not get hit while kicking.
Thanks for the feedback. The leg-fish is maybe a bit too chubby ;)
Great game really fun! and really fit the theme good job!
Thank you so much!
Love the forward motion going around the earth. No other game here can say they use prawns. Fun!
Thanks! Prawns are the best :)
