I absolutely loved everything about this!
Fun to play, amazing art and the funny sounds :-D

I had a little bug were my screen would constantly move ever so slightly to the right. But still playable.

Overall a nice game that helped me pass the time during breaktime :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks, love you loved it! Oh maybe fullscreen if it wasn’t might help?

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Tried it out. Playing fullscreen actually resolves the issue! (:
Edit: In fact not just here. In any of the fps submissions. thank you :-*

Developer

Welcome!

Really fun to play!

Developer

Thanks! Great you enjoyed! :)

Cool Doom-Clone and good graphics and sounds and animation. Gets quite repetetive fast. I loved the flying staples. Would have loved if the weapons had more impact, and bigger dmg numbers. Cool feature that the enemys aim in front where they think the player will go.
Solid Entry! Well done!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah can be repetitive for re-using levels but I was happy it progresses. Thanks for your feedback and happy too you thought was a solid entry :)

A very nice and fun little "boomer shooter", I loved all: the art, the music and the gameplay. Only small note: the adherence to the theme of the jam is a bit borderline... But personally I don't care, the game is solid anyway!

Developer(+1)

Thankyou! I love your amiga bouncing ball profile pic too :D. For theme we have a Eraser enemy; erasing enemies and player when dying; and the story that Jason Drawn where his memory was erased, but was a hard theme.

Great that you loved our game! :)

Yes, I'm a looong time Amiga lover!!! "Copper" is one of the coprocessors of the Amiga! ;-)

Developer(+1)

Never was lucky enough to have an Amiga nor a C64 back in the days, but remember playing games at my cousin on his Amiga 2000... Gosh i'm old! :D

Anyway, thank you for playing our game, and for the nice feedback

So much fun! I loved the art, sounds, and gameplay loop. Was always excited to see what would show up next in the shop. lol I must've died like 3 times before I realized I was backing up into lava . Great Work!!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words, glad you enjoyed it - and yeah, look out for those lava pits!

That end-of-round SFX made me laugh. Level 12 was a challenge, but I still found a way to succeed. Good job, love your game!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Haha I loved that too, found the asset from https://filmcow.itch.io/filmcow-sfx-4 (Toons) although the most other sfx was made by Deevus. Yeah I found 12 it started to get hard from then and can see the shop for the first 2. I died a lot when testing haha.

Great you love the game, makes me happy! :)

Submitted(+2)

SFX is absolutely sick! Art is also pretty appealing. I hope Jason gets his memory back.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I actually made most of the SFX myself.

Submitted(+3)

Loved it, the art style is fantastic and I really enjoyed the rubberband and stapler guns.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for your feedback! I love the art by add-soul and weapons too :D

This is a crazy good game. I do think the theme is a little bit forced into it, but I gotta be honest, for games like this, I don't really care. Game jams can be practice for some of us but it can be also the starting point for something great!

I would personally encourage you guys to keep developing this game. This may be a cliche, but I actually see myself buying a full version of this game on steam. It feels like a really good casual spin on the roguelite shooter genre. It's impressive you managed to do a game so polished, balanced, and most importantly: insanely fun.

Congratulations and keep up the good work!

Developer(+1)

Appreciate you taking the time to give our game a go - thank you!

To be honest we did struggle a bit with the theme, but thought it ended up being  a pretty fun  spin on things,
Not sure if it will be developed any further though... maybe? ... but we will  take the general feedback we're received and hopefully sort out a few things we didn't have time to during the Jam

Submitted(+3)

all 5, well polished, the stepler shotgun makes me crazy, well balanced and have a lot of fun to play) great job)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for giving our game and the Stapler Shotgun a good run!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! Glad it was polished and balanced too, makes me happy! Shotgun Stapler is fun, I love Rubberband Mayhem too :D

Saw you guys occasionally post the enemy art in the GWJ discord and have been itchin' to finally give it a try! Super clean game; I love all the 2d elements. I even liked the controls; I originally wasn't sure I was going to like having my y-axis locked for a shooter, but honestly, was an incredibly smart choice. Made movement and shooting feel very smooth.

Think I only have two main critiques:

  • I never used that melee. Didn't really have an incentive to use it. Could be cool to make it like a weak push attack that shoves all the "in your face" enemies back. Might even be able to experiment with that concept (i.e., knocked back enemies can hit other enemies or fall off the map, allows for "puzzly" elements where you need to knock back enemies onto something).
  • For the 3d art, I know the wildcard was to try for different styles, however, I feel like all the 3d assets need like a black outline or something to match the polished 2d assets. Not sure on the palette for them but something about the two felt disconnected.

Either way, awesome stuff and super creative game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for your feedback, originally whilst mocking up the arenas we did test with outlines, however the environments started taking focus from the 2D elements. But will definitively take note, an maybe see if we can tweak things a bit in a future release. Will also make a note on the melee implementation. Appreciate you taking the time to play the game!

This is a really high quality game for a week and I had a blast playing it! Pretty funny sound effects and has a lot of potential. My imagination is jumping at thoughts of expanding the world. It could be cool to have bosses with custom music for each big fight, which would make for an interesting progression system along with a plot :)

Stapler OP

Developer

Thanks for playing, and for your feedback - we did want to implement boss fights and more arenas to play, just ran out of time.

Developer

Thanks! Was a lot of fun too! Yeah the coffee mug is supposed to be the boss, more hp before the shop :) We were going to add some more level music but didn’t get the chance to implement that

Submitted(+2)

Funy game and i enjoyed playing it,
Sometimes the tiki seem to stuck themself on tall grass especially the level before the shops. I have noticed that the projectile the tikis throw collide and get destroy by fellow tikis, when a lot of tiki are on map almost no projectile get close to you. Plus since the projectile predicted where the player is going when you have 2x speed the aimed becomes very off and easy to dodge since it aimed way off from the player. Overall the game is still amazing

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

I had the idea to switch between projectile prediction and straight at the player but ran out of time before I could implement it.

Definitely could be improved but I'm proud of what we achieved in just a week.

Submitted(+1)

Yeah you can be proud, a week is really short and you still have manage to do a solid game with nice art, sound effect and gameloop

Submitted

Amazing game. Feels pretty much fully done, I’m impressed! My favourite weapon was for sure the stapler haha. One improvement might be randomizing the projectile prediction amount, I found you could sort of rig the enemy into always missing by strafing back and forth and/or jumping often. Thats my only nitpick haha. Otherwise, I’m amazed how much you’re team accomplished in just the week. I look forward to seeing more.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback, we'll likely try to tweak a few things after the Jam - just happy we managed to submit on time

Submitted(+1)

That's so creative! Loved the band gun, and the way you implemented the shooter enemies, trying to predict my trajectory.

The mix of 2d and 3d also works quite well, I wish there were more alternative upgrades to weapons, and also being able to aim in the Y axis.

I got to wave 25, and had lots of fun, good job folks!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Good work getting to wave 25! Starts getting harder from 12 Wave. I’m glad you liked the game and thanks for the feedback :)

Submitted(+2)

Great entry! Loved the spin on Doom and the art I've been seeing in the discord everywhere! Amazing style and I stuck with the shotgun. Fun shotgun. I love shotguns.

Developer

Haha! good to hear you took our stapler for a spin! - and thanks for giving our little  game a try.

Submitted(+2)

Nice game! I enjoyed the stapler shotgun also, it was super strong. Also, I really enjoyed all the sound effects for the game!

Developer

Cheers! happy you enjoyed it - we sure had a few good laughs making it! Did you get to test the Rubberband Mayhem too?

Submitted

Yes I did, It was pretty good but I think the stapler is better since you can like two shot enemies if you get close up

Developer

100% - rubberband simply don't hit as hard as small pieces of metal! - thank you for giving our game a go!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I recorded most of the sounds myself.
