Ah, this brings back memories of old school FF games on the NES! FYI, I don't know if this was a bug or intended: I beat the boss of the cave and it spawned the ladder. I went back to explore the rooms I hadn't finished yet, and when I came back the ladder was gone and the boss respawned.

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing! Lol that’s most definitely a bug haha.

Nice work mate! Ive always wanted to make a turn based!

Thanks for playing!

Really cool game, I loved the turn battle system!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

The game was fun to play. I think you should add a small player marker to the map so we can know which room the player is in. Also, keep working on this. This game has  good potential.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words! I totally planned to have some indicator, then I got lost in working on other things, and it completely slipped my mind haha.

Nice game ! There is all the elements for neat rogue-lite here :) It was fun to play and satisfying to beat the boss. Special mentionfor the map ! Maybe a little visual feed back when hitting the enemies would add to the dynamic. Also, the mimic ability is a good mechanic. Well done!

(i didn't get any sound though, is it a problem with how the game launch ?)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! A lot of visual feedback stuff was lacking this game haha. Hopefully I can improve for next jam :)

Submitted(+1)

I played this a lot longer than I expected I would, I realised with the 20% health back using the bat mimic if I dumped all points into attack I could become unstoppable. The scaling with upgrades is really strong so I played until I could 1 hit the boss, such power hahah even with it all stripped back the core is solid and inherently addictive. Also was very nice to not be reset after dying.

The mimic ability could be a little more dynamic if you can only copy 1 ability at a time, meaning you might actually swap what ability you’ve copied mid battle, you know you plan to block for the next couple rounds so you spend a turn to swap from bat to spikes mimic.

Not sure if it’s the only cause for the game stalling but it did it for me if the residual damage from the shield dealt the killing blow for the round. I was able to reproduce it as well and had no problems as long as I used an attack to kill the final enemy.

Really fun stuff had a good time!

Developer(+1)

Wow, thanks so much for the praise! It’s a pretty bare bones version of what I had envisioned but I’m glad someone found some enjoyment from it! I like the strategy you pulled with putting everything into Attack, and how it scales so well with lifesteal - I didn’t think of that at first haha.

Submitted(+1)

Gamedev is hard. I can see all the potential ideas that you probably wanted in the game. If only there was enough time, right? :)

Developer(+1)

It is hard! haha. Even when things don’t turn out as you invision, you will learn a lot of tricks along the way. Thanks for the kind words.

Submitted(+1)

Cool game! I like the restoring the village idea. The mimic ability is interesting and it has a great foundation. The fighting is fairly slow and I wish there was more strategy involved.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, I was hoping to add another attacking mechanic to spice things up but the code was devolving at that point so I just got everything in a stable situation before the end of jam haha

Submitted(+1)

I like the mimic mechanic!

May not be the root cause of freezing but there seems to be errors printing in the console whenever I move which can lower performance with enough of them - after going through the dungeon once my console is at 13,000. The error message is "index.js:474 USER ERROR: The InputMap action "DEVKEY" doesn't exist."

Developer

Thanks!

Ohh.. I think I know where thats coming from, I’ll have to look into it, just a testing input I was using.

Submitted(+1)

It's strange having to select the attack with the mouse and confirm the enemy with the keyboard. The coins are above the end of the action text.

Apart from that, good game. If you add some background music and some animations to the enemies, it will be even better. Congrats! :D

Developer

Yeah, I wanted to set something up similar to the Paper Mario games attack selection, but couldn’t get their in time. Definitely needs some music and animations to make it feel more alive. Thanks for playing!

Solid dungeon crawler, I'd love to see where this game could evolve to

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Good submission! It's a bit slow but I think it's mostly the lack of music making it feel that way. Keep at it!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

I like the mimic ability! Haven't seen that before (don't play many games like this)

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Just like @IsItLucas mentioned, my game also froze a few minutes in - I think it's whenever I got to 10 souls.

I still managed to rush to the slime boss and get him down (I just spammed attack and got lucky he didn't attack much hehe).

I enjoyed the opening, as simple as it was, as well as the map generation, and trying to dodge enemies to avoid having to fight and instead just get to the chests! I expect there would be more for me to like had it not been for the game freezing.

One thing I wasn't sure about it how the "Erase" theme fit into this - perhaps I just didn't get far enough to see it?

In any case, I think this is a pretty good start for a game - probably just a bit too large a scope for a single dev to get through in a week if I had to guess! :p

Developer

Sorry to hear it was freezing. I’m not quite sure what’s causing that :(

Yeah, I definitely overscoped a bit haha. I would have liked to get a lot more done but in the end I learned a lot on what not to do next time. Thanks for the feedback, and for playing even through the issues.

Submitted(+1)

It's a shame that I couldn't really play the game for more than 5 minutes. It would eventually freeze :/

Developer (1 edit)

Oh weird. What browser are you using? I’ll see if I can find a fix :(

Edit : I didnt have shared array buffer on, maybe that was it?

Submitted

I'm using Chrome. I'm giving the game another try.

Pretty fun! I want to try out a few different builds to see how stats affect play. wish there were shortcuts for actions in battle.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah, I would have liked to improve the menus a bit to have shortcuts / easier controls, its pretty bare bones as of right now haha.

Submitted(+1)

The battle is a bit slow and spamming attaque work after mimicking bat spécial (lifesteal) they weren't really any strategie of turnbased battle. And i encounter a glitch (no effect on the gameplay) when the battle start but nobody take place to fight, it was funny seeing everyone running while fighting. Overall it's a nice casual game

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah I encountered that glitch a few times, but since it wasn’t anything serious I left it be haha. Yeah the game is pretty bare bones right now, I wish I could have implemented some more enemies and mechanics, but alas - time haha.

Submitted(+1)

Fun game, I played it for a bit, and because I'm unhinged I put everything into attack :3, but I also felt bad about attacking the cute creatures. Map generation is nice, I had no sound on my browser, maybe a bug, or maybe sound is missing? Overall I enjoyed it.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Hey, if glass cannon works, it works haha. Yeah I ran out of time and cut working on sound in order to get the game loop working at least haha

Submitted(+1)

Nice work!  Great concept, would love to see it fleshed out more with some enemy variety, I didn't feel the need to mix up my strategy at all.  Also gamepad/keyboard support for the menus would be nice, I can easily see playing this on the couch.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Id definitely like to add controller support to a game like this. As for enemies, yeah, I ran out of time, I wish I managed to get a few more tho.

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Definitely see the Binding of Isaac influence :D

Pros: I like the particle effects and animations. The art and sprites are good. I also like the exploration (is the cave dungeon randomly generated each time? that's cool.)

Cons: I felt like the pacing of the combat was a bit slow, and I mostly just spammed attack button. I got stuck in the cave, wasn't sure exactly which room I was in and how to get out (maybe there's no way out? it drops you in the center of a room when you enter the cave.) When I died and returned to town, I couldn't move, so I was stuck and had to reload the page. Some audio would be a nice addition to the game to make it feel more alive.

Overall nice job, I could definitely see this being fleshed out more--all the systems are there, just requires some tweaking :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, and the kind words!

Yeah, the dungeon is randomly generated each time! I ended up spending a lot of time getting dungeon generation and combat set up that by the time I could flesh it out I didnt have much time left haha. I definitely overscoped a bit lol.
