Game Description
You are saving Olaf from those nasty doodles while he is taking a well deserved nap.

How does your game tie into the theme?
You are erasing doodles with an eraser. If that doesn't fit, then I don't know what does.

That went from cute to stressful REALLY fast! Nice work!

Developer

Yeah, the difficulty-balance is a little off  ^^"
But glad you could still enjoy the challenge (:

Submitted(+1)

Oh, poor Olaf, I was never able to save him. He's so cute and adorable too. I love the art style - and this was the first game of the jam (at least for me) that used the eraser at the end of a pencil, which I think will really help define the aiming point, visually.

Developer

We are delighted that you enjoyed the art <3
Everything was hand drawn and then scanned, which gives it its unice look. But also cost us a lot of time "post-processing", to make it fit for use ^^"

Hearing how much people liked the artstyle realy made it worth it though (:

Submitted(+1)

Hi, the artstyle is cute, I especially liked the pencil with eraser, and your erase animation + particle system. Cool background and stuff. Would have loved to erase also the other stuff which was laying around.
Great entry for your first game jam!

Developer (1 edit)

We didn't have the time to create a proper "death" animation for the enemy, but it didn't feel satisfying for them to just disappear.
The particals were actually a last minute fix for this issue :-D
The other art was planned for a shopping system (you'd draw them with your pencil to help you defend), which we sadly also had to drop due to time too :(

Really glad you enjoyed our little game (:

Submitted(+1)

Unfortunately, Olaf came to a bad end in my hands! Cute and fun game! I loved the hand drawn graphics and the chill music! Keep coding guys! :-)

Developer(+1)

Not to worry, Olaf ist used to getting a little dirty :-D

Submitted(+1)

Cute game. Very nice for first jam.

Could use a restart button as I failed to keep him safe the first time :(

Submitted(+1)

Whop Whop i managed to keep Olaf safe.. was close there for a second but my erasing skills prevailed! Fun short game!

Submitted(+1)

Really enjoyed the literal approach to the theme, and the illustrations and animations felt just right. As others have already mentioned refining the eraser controls and how the difficulty increases, would likely help a lot (and i personally would have loved to see the cat have a little snoozing animation)

However all in all, for a first game jam, this is pretty cool

Developer

A snooze animation would have been incredible!
We wanted to add a little "purr" sound if you erase over olaf as well, but with only one hour left for our first ever submission, I didn't want to take any risks with even the tiniest changes ^^"

Submitted(+1)

I really like the assets!!

Amazing

Developer

Thanks <3

Nice, simple game! I liked the art style. My only critique would be not being able to move the pencil while erasing, and the difficulty seems to ramp super hard. Would like to see the gameplay fleshed out a bit more (powerups, maybe?)

Developer

Thank you!
We had so many more ideas, but sadly lacked the experience to implement everything in time.

It was still fun to make and a bliss to hear people could enjoy it regardless (:

Submitted(+1)

I kept Olaf safe! :D

The increase in difficulty was quite extreme from one moment to the next and I think a slightly greater contrast between the 'shadow' of the pencil and the paper would be better, still the game looked really cool and managed to use the theme well as a basis for the rest. Congrats!

Developer(+1)

I didn't even think about it as a 'shadow' :-D
The idea was to aim with the circle for the next target while the animation of the pencil is playing -for purely aesthetic reasons.
Always knew balancing in games was hard to do, but never realised just how hard it is. Even with something small like this.
Thank you for taking the time to play our game and giving us valuable feedback!
We'll strife to improve on our design and overall gameplay (:

Submitted(+1)

Very well integration of the theme. I really like the cosyness of the game. It was fun to play!

Developer

And it was fun to make too!
Thank you for taking the time to play our game <3

Great artwork here. I found it challenging but in a good way. It needs a restart button to retry. I had fun with it :)

Developer

It was supposed to restart after 5 seconds of winning/loosing.
But it isn't working properly and I noticed it too late to fix it :')

We appreciate you taking the time for our game and are glad you liked it (:

Submitted(+2)

Didn't expect this to be so hard, but looks really good and was fun regardless!

Developer(+1)

thank you! Ya I haven’t even been able to beat it yet lol poor Olaf

Developer(+1)

Yeah, taking my Pro-Shooter friends as playtesters was, in hintsight, not the smartest idea ^^"
But I am glad you could still enjoy the game! (:

Submitted(+2)

Great first entry! I really like the hand drawn art. The sad square guy was my favorite.

Developer

much appreciated! The pencil—only asset challenge was so fun.

Submitted(+2)

pretty fun! thought for sure erasing the guitar / headphones would mute the soundtrack aha.

Developer

I was actually thinking about that :-D
Glad you enjoyed the game (:

Developer

great idea!!

Submitted(+2)

Lovely drawings, animations and sounds, plus it was very easy to get started!

I lost pretty quickly on my first game, and enemies never showed up when the game restarted afterwards. But I reloaded the page, and managed to keep Olaf safe on my second attempt!

Once you identify and understand the two types of enemies, it gets pretty easy... but not so easy that I didn't have to focus - I was still alert and on edge for the entire ~60s game!

One thing I noticed is that the music stopped a little bit before I finished the game, so it would've been nice to extend it a bit or make it loop. But otherwise, it's a nice, simple and fun game!

Developer

The end of the music (60 seconds) is the exact time the enemys stop spawning.
But I agree, we could have something light playing until the last enemies are erased.
Thank you for your feedback and I'm glad we could give you a fun challenge (:

Submitted(+2)

I couldn't save Olaf, lots of enemies everywhere

Developer

Sadly our bad balancing isn't "gamebreaking".
I will make sure to reduce the overall difficulty once the gamejam is over.

Hopefully you could still enjoy the game :)

Submitted(+1)

balancing was okay, it was still enjoyable

Submitted(+2)

Cool art style

My best score is 22

Developer(+1)

Thank you! it was super fun and challenging to make the assets with pencil and paper haha

Submitted(+2)

Very pretty!  I like how simple it is, but it's very engaging.  Nice work!

Developer

Thank you. Glad you liked it (:

Submitted(+3)

This was so fun and cute! I played it a few times through. I had to refresh the page each time, since more bad doodles didn't show up even though the count reset. My best score was 28. Is it actually possible to win or will you eventually get overwhelmed no matter what? Either way, I thought it was really fun!

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

Glad you enjoyed our little game (:

At the moment, the reset doesn't work properly.
I couldn't find out why though ^^"

The enemys stop coming after the song ends (The score is usually around 40). Winning can be a matter of luck though, since the spawnrate is somewhat random and we lack experience in balancing... or making games in general ^^"
