Interesting roguelike concept of choosing between randomised encounters. I do like how the simplfied looting / dropping equipment/skills system work. Cool system that could go a long way refined and polished!
Hey there Isabella Ava, I got your game for judging so here are some of my thoughts. A fully randomized (at least I assume it was all random) dungeon crawler is tough to get right, but for the most part I think it worked. Having the option to choose which direction to go to with different possibilities in each is a great idea, but due to the QTEs being too fast for me to complete I ended up mostly focusing on the chests and enemies. I have to second the tint being too dark. Most of the time I wasn't sure what I was looking at, and just went by general shape instead of paying attention to any details.
I did like the idea behind oriented skills and doing damage related to that, so it was a shame that normal enemies didn't seem to ever start with a different orientation besides the center default. The battle camera movement actually made me feel ill since it moved so quickly, so it would have been nice if I could turn that off. Beyond the battle camera, battles didn't feel balanced. I could beat the normal enemies in two strikes, but as soon as I fought the prince I was defeated because he was just so much stronger than I was, even after doing my best to collect good equipment and skills. And when I was defeated, I was unlucky enough to realize I had not seen a save since the first section so I had to start the game from scratch...
I also had the game crash during my second try at the whale fight, this is what popped up when I tried to use a skill (can't remember which one, unfortunately):
Overall, this felt like a prototype to me. There were plenty of good ideas here, but altogether it just didn't click. There's definitely an interesting game concept here, so with more time you could have something that's a lot of fun to play.
This is a unique take on a dungeon crawler with a lot of interesting concepts here, but I think they all need a little more attention and polish to feel complete and cohesive. It's also VERY dark, to the point of my needing to squint in order to see what's going on, which wasn't a very pleasant experience overall. I think with a little more work, you could have something pretty cool on your hands!
I tried out this game, and it mostly confuses me.
I can KIND OF see where this was going, but the execution really doesn't cut it for me, overall it's too rough.
I feel like this is a proof of concept for a roguelike game, but honestly it's hard to see it as a finished game or even public demo. It didn't do much for me.
I admit that this game has something that fascinates me, I don't know if it's the realistic facesets or that number 1 in the title. The idea of choosing which group of events to tackle is nice, however I think there is still a bit of work to be done to improve the UI and the cohesion between the different graphics. I would also have preferred a few more tutorials but it's more of a personal preference.
I'm curious for a sequel!
I was having so much fun with this game. I AM gonna have to finish it.
