How does your game fit the theme "Unconventional Means"?
It's a platformer but the direction of gravity effects the controls and play area!

Cool game, I didn't like 2 things, vertical speed in the air is too slow for maneuvering. And there are no clues of what lies ahead because of this, the 4th level turned into a memory game. But overall the implementation is not a bad good job!

Developer(+1)

I tried to fix the vertical speed but I have no idea how to do that in the Gdevelop  Physics Engine without also affecting the "walking" speed. I could in theory add 4 extra points to the object for 4 independent ground checks based on the orientation of the gravity and add a second set of controls for the object in the air. I'm not sure that the physics engine would handle that well and it might cause more bugs than it would add features. I was also limited by an extra day as I was busy the last full day and a half of the jam.  I might keep playing with this idea as a side project though. Thanks for playing the game. I appreciate the feedback!

The only problem i got is sticky walls (but it was mentioned on game page).
(but sometimes, for me, it was hard to understand where is "ground" :D)
Overall, good game! Nice concept!

Developer(+1)

I thought about changing the sprite of the cube to have an arrow pointing towards the gravity source but it kind of ruined the aesthetic. Do you think there would be an easier solution? I racked my brain and the only other idea would be a UI element but my game was kind of lacking in the UI  department.

Maybe some sort of a compass? But not compass. Gravitpass

Pretty fun game I really liked the lighting effects and ambient music. The physics engine does appear to be a little janky at times with the character sticking to walls and sometime to flat ground though

Developer

Yeah, I'm thinking of switching to unity. I figured Gdevelop would be easier as I am not very fast at non-visual scripting. Thank you for playing the game!

Submitted(+1)

If you like visual scripting Bolt in the Unity engine is fantastic. I switched from C to Bolt because I tend to code quickly and make mistakes, it made my life so much easier I doubt I would ever go back from visual scripting. I would highly recommend you check it out :D

Developer

I saw bolt as an option a long time ago but this is the first time I've ever worked on a game outside of a class in high school. I completely forgot about it. thank you for bringing it to my attention. I will def be using unity in the next game jam! Hope to see you then!

Fellow visual scripting enthusiasts must stick together. I will definitely be following progress in the next jam!

Fun little game! Good simplistic design, I liked that even though you weren't really able to do art you added the shadows, nice touch! Apart from a few quality of life things and a couple bugs it was great! One thing I will say is in the future its probably good to add some sort of tutorial or "before you play" esc thing so the player knows what the goal is and what will kill them, as a dev its very easy to just think somethings intuitive and wont need explaining but every mind works differently, for instance I was confused as to how I was dying a couple times on the first lvl before I figured out what was killing me, it's just a little touch that can be as easy as just labelling the death zone on the first level, not even with words just a danger sign would do, apart from that tho no complaints! Great game especially for a jam!

Developer(+1)

Definitely should have made a tutorial! I can't believe I forgot to do that!
Thanks for the feedback!

I like it!

Developer

Thanks!

The levels are well designed and work nicely with the main mechanic! Great job!

Developer

Thank You!

Very nice game, it was very fun and exciting! Nice shadows too.

Developer

I was debating on using the lighting engine in this game. Thanks a bunch for the feedback!

Nice game!

It would be great if you put some art into the game, I was able to finish it!

Good job!

Developer(+1)

I'm not much of an artist and I tried to make a different character but it was...  not great... so a cube it is. I will work on improving my art in the future. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Same here! It is my first time doing art for a game, not great, not terrible. For starters try to go minimalist, 16x16 or even 8x8 pixel art is a good place to start. There is a lot of content in youtube about it! Not going to say it is easy, and for the short amount of time is fine :D

Keep doing games and you will be able to use that knowledge in other games!

Only minor details, Overal Good Game!

- Looping music was good but could be better, thank you for including a volume slider

- Level 4 was more of a memory game than a platformer, requiring you to fail repeatedly to pass the level which is not a problem for a quick checkpoints, no score, no lives, no timer game

- Exit button at end did nothing but then again what could it have done as a browser game? close the tab?

- Player movement felt nice, wonderfull jump sound. Player velocity was not reseting on death on level 4.

Developer(+1)

I agree the music wasn't very good but this is my first time making game music and I didn't know what tools to use. if you have any recommendations I would appreciate it! I made the game as a standalone for windows but decided last second to release it as HTML5 in hindsight I probably should have removed the exit button before the export.🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️
I spent way too much time trying to fine-tune the jump sound. 🤣
I liked the feeling on level 4 of not resetting the velocity so I left it. so we'll call it a bug that is also a feature.

Thanks for the feedback I really do appreciate it. I hope to see you in future jams!

I beat the game. Really fun!

Developer

Thanks! 😁

Submitted(+1)

Hard to believe this was done in such a short amount of time great work! Couldn't beat level 4 but this was a great concept that fit the theme really well!

Developer

I thought some people might have trouble with level 4.  You didn't miss much. Level 5 is essentially credits.  I should have made a level selector. That's my bad. Thanks for playing the game. 😀😀😀

this was a fun expirience

Developer

Thank you!😄
