Interesting premise, great presentation, great music. It's only held back by the lack of subtlety in the narrative and the fan service that feels out of place. Overall, glad I tried it out.

A palette cleanser in theme, for when it comes to content appearing on itch.io. Lots of love and care put into the sprites and content. The primary issue is with the artificial length-- characters who are little else but jokes for the plot while it tries to have a serious core and conceit by the end.

It has a checklist of jokes that fights against a sort of comprehensive message on the nature of competitveness and a zen valuation of what matters in life. Sometimes, a story is like a tree. You must trim some branches so that the rest of it can thrive.

Absolutely amazing! The story was great and just the right length. The twist, while I could kinda see it coming, was done really well. I also love the openness of the ending, keeping it relatable to anyone who decides to read, and the overall message is universal regardless. Memento is a character I fell in love with pretty quickly; his personality was great. I really don't have anything negative to say about this VN at all!

A browser Short Visual Novel made in HTML5.

Fantastic presentation, trying to make optimal use of the new features of the latest renpy release and taking care to feature essentially the capacity that many devs ignore.

While the relationship of the couple feels authentic, the worldbuilding and ham-fisted lampshading of the "My Wolf" genre makes everything feel insincere and makes world itself strange and feeling unfinished. The worldbuilding sets up a lot of implications, but they're carried out to shallow ends, making it feel dissatisfying at times, hamstringing the quality emotional core and authentic interpersonal drama.

It's got a lovely core, but the need to bring in the audience with the overt genre jokes takes away from the sincerity of the piece, undermining the story and the themes within it.

TATWIOY;BOFTAG's premise builds a vivid world commenting on disability, gender and capitalism by nature of the unique feature of the story.

It simultaneously shitposts visually and in the text, undercutting the themes of the story with irreverent moments and garish presentation (while simultaneously having lovely moments that reinforce the theme of the work). The work sits at a crossroads, and its inability to commit to either side weakens it, although I do appreciate the efforts towards reducing the visual shitposting (somewhat) in the latest update.

Would that it commit to solely to the promises the worldbuilding establishes a really engaging story would emerge.

Great story, really utilizing the existing sprites and making them your own with some additional flourishes of quality.

Sole complaint is really that the ending fails to fulfill the 'promises' the story sets up, re-establishing a new status quo when the story is about the disruption of the status quo.

A game re-contextualizing the ask of American Pie from 1999 as now gay and furry- do you want to fuck that lasagna? And with your bf?

A fun presentation with consistent theming, but took too long to get to the point, the focus misspent on the recipes and cooking rather than the interpersonal relationships to solidify the relationship.

We wanted to see them fuck lasagna. If only we could get to it sooner and with more purpose behind it. Still a fun piece.

Love everything about this – the tight but purposeful pacing, the careful setups and payoffs, the occasional deadpan humor. The animations and the cross-cutting give the game a nice cinematic feel, which it uses effectively both to get across its intriguing worldbuilding and to build its atmosphere of desolate beauty.

The VN's most important assets are its fantastic instincts for what to reveal and what to keep ambiguous. In spite of the game jam's prompt, it doesn't get bogged down by the romance, confidently keeping its character portraits interesting but vague outlines and making its slower moments count thematically. It's not the shortest game in the jam, but out of what I have read so far, it may be the best at making every word matter.

I'm blown away by what The Flying General accomplished in around 8000 words and with mostly premade assets, sketching out a fascinating world and establishing a clear visual identity for itself, and I hope it gets lots of love as people go through the jam entries. (There are some polish issues, most notably the audio mixing, but I'm just excited to play it again once they are addressed.)
