Glad I gave this one a second try. Fun once you get into the groove of it, though my only complaint would be how sluggish it feels to aim downwards. Maybe having a button to snap your aim downwards quickly would be worth considering.
Really nice graphics and cool idea! It's pretty tricky to get used to the movement system with the grappling, but a fun game once you get the hang of it. Great job!
Had fun with it! Once you get the hang of it, it's a neat implementation of the grappling hook.
The game is gorgeous, I absolutely loved the background and the effects when the bats die!
The music is cool though I found the shotgun blast a bit too underwhelming, it lacks that punch. You feel the character moving but the sound doesn't quite translate that to me.
I downloaded the game after trying a bit on my browser (it's Firefox) and finding it too laggy. It's kinda rare to download a game that is playable on a browser, so I think that's a good signal! Also, that's probably on the browser version but the animations showing the grappling hook in action before playing were just black blocks in my tutorial.
Somehow I managed to get over 1000 points easily on the browser, though I barely got very far up. On the windows build I managed to play for many minutes but just got 1748 points. I didn't understand if shooting the ghosts counted, I did a lot of it on the browser version since I barely could go up. Or perhaps there's some WebGL shenanigans at work, and the vertical space of the browser version counts in a weird way?
The interactions with the bats were a pain, sometimes they'd be right in front of my character and my shots just passed through 'em. Their hitboxes seemed a bit wonky. By shooting from afar it was absolutely easier to kill.
I might have missed it, but I didn't find something that showed me a platform was "reachable" so many times I'd just blindly fire the grappling hook hoping the distance was okay. Sometimes it wasn't and I'd panic a bit. I also didn't understand the boosting mechanic, but I guess that's on me! Does it depend on the distance of the grappling hook or is it some sort of cooldown timer?
All in all, I had fun and it was a neat application of a gun with multiple functions! Congratulations!
Thank you playing the game! I had updated the WebGL build with some big fixes, but the windows build wasn't updated, so there would be some differences in the movement mechanic. Regarding the bat hitbox; you're right it needs to be fixed. Initially I had a limit on the grappling hook distance, but I've eliminated that in the WebGL build so that any platform you see on the screen would be reachable. The web build runs smoothly only on Chrome browser unfortunately, but I'll update the windows build to the new version. Thanks for the detailed feedback
Nice, I love the juiciness !
Really cool game. It did baffle me at first tho
It took me a while to understand it, but once I understood it I could go far, excellent mechanics
I liked the idea and the idea of using the grap to complete the "rocket jump" feature to add more depth to the mechanic. Btw I've experienced lags too with the browser. Well done, solid entry.
Love the music and the art style, very polished on both fronts. The grapple is really smooth, especially interacting with the shotgun. It lags a bit on browser, but it's fantastic anyways. Great job!
3d cubes are awesome and the music fantastic. what do you use to do the music ?
Cool game! Nice assets, both visual and audio. Gameplay felt pretty good and satisfying.
The player movement felt a bit sluggish, not as snappy as the rest of the game. Otherwise great work!
I really enjoyed playing this game! Very well polished and fun :)
First of all, the game looks really polished and the music is pretty awesome! Simple but really nice tune. The shotgun feels good and the graphics are really nice. It took me a while to figure out the best strategy to use the grapple, but I got it eventually! It was fun face blasting the bats while flying around on a shotgun xD good implementation of the limit.
Criticism:
1. the movement was a bit too slide-y, When walking on platforms I felt like I had very little control and fell off often
2. The grapple only sticks to platforms, not to the walls. This is good but it wasn't communicated in the main menu, so I was baffled for a bit why the grapple doesn't always work
Thanks for the detailed feedback! I should increase the friction between the character and the floor, you're right. As for the walls, the original build had the ability to grapple on walls, but I removed it later as you can simply stay near the walls and keep moving up. I think I should add that info to the main menu as you mentioned.
great game idea, nice graphic, but sometimes the grapple did not come out on hold rmb
I really liked the music and pixelart background in this game, and the grappling hook is a really cool concept, but i wish she shotgun was a little more balanced. The quickest way to win seems to be to ignore the enemies (i think the player has too much health) and shoot the shotgun downwards to launch yourself up forever, My high score was 2160 doing that, but if there were some changes to make that a little more balanced, i could definitely see this being a really fun game :D
Thank you for the detailed feedback. I initially had the shotgun have a very minimal boost if you simply aim down and keep shooting without grappling so that you don't move up a lot, but I increased the boost eventually fearing the movement would become frustrating. I think I will revert it back!
good game
I wish there was more enemies, but it was good
It's fun for a while, but the strategy is just to spam the shotgun and the grappling hook has no idea, because you can't move yourself to swing with it and the background is pixel art and evererything else 3D thingy art and it doesn't look that good, but the music is absolutely awesome.
Thanks for the honest feedback! You can actually move left/right while grappling by using the shotgun, it will add force
Perfect, nothing else to add.
Everything goes well, the mucis, the sound. The mechanics are classic because 95% of the people in the jam performed it that way but it's really really well executed, I'm amazed
Thanks a lot for the feedback!
For whatever reason the game was very laggy to play on my machine in the browser, making it impossible to do much at all. But the look was good and I liked mechanical concept.
thank you for your feedback :) May I know which browser you're using?
Ah, I was using Avast, so that's probably on me. Tried it in Firefox and it seems to work better now though the grapple didn't seem to work this time. I like the idea of riding the ghost wave for points farming though. Will update my rating.
Easily the best game i've played so far. The presentation is insane for a game jam game. Kinda wish there was an ending, also maybe I shouldn't be allowed to grapple the wall, I out ran the level generation lol.
Thanks a lot! How did I miss that detail, I will remove the wall grappling
