  • First jam? That's so awesome and a huge accomplishment! Your GDD was very thorough and helped me to realize your vision. I love it! I really liked the idea of the three characters, each with their own ability, and being able to switch between them. I thought the character models and animations were really well done. I also liked the idea that players can boost their stats after killing enemies. One thing I did try to do after one of the siblings went down was try to heal them. Might be cool to add a mechanic like that too. Overall, I think you have a great foundation to work off of here. I hope you all continue making progress on it. I would love to play it more in the future. Hopefully you all had fun, learned something, and plan to join us for more jams in the future!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes!

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
The game is a wave based fighter where you take on demon possessed pizzas in your quest to just get a slice of pizza. Main mechanic is the ability to switch between 3 different characters on the field. They were meant to each have a special ability but we didn't finish that.... so they just punch as of now. Controls are WASD to move, "E" to attack, and "Spacebar" to switch characters.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
Our game was meant to be a wave based fighting game where you can switch between 3 characters loosely based on the creators of the game! All attacks were meant to be physical or be related to traits of the developers to show that were are the weapons used to take care of the pizza infestation. Having attacks being based on our traits was our spin on being weapons. We weren't able to flesh out special abilities enough to really drive this point home though.....

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
We as a team were just happy to submit something as this is our first game jam and we ran into a lot of issues. Our expectations aren't high but we appreciate your guy's time in judging our game!

Thanks for putting this together! I like the funny little pizza demons a lot, and I'm a big fan of arena battler games. I managed to make it up to Wave 4 on my second try.

The basic premise is good, but I think Pizzageist could feel significantly better if you made some key changes: reduce the map size, increase the player's attack range, and make each sibling tag in and out of the game instead of having all three on screen at the same time. It was a bit frustrating to lose lives even though I couldn't control their movements to dodge pepperoni.

I appreciate the feedback!! I think your suggestions would make Pizzageist much better! Thank you!

I decided to play the other pizza-based submission :)

I like the idea of having the three characters you switch between, and I would have liked to see a version where they have unique abilities or roles. At one point I think one of the characters did a two-hit  combo, but I haven't been able  to make that happen again. It's timing based maybe? I haven't found the timing or the trigger. I like that the other characters have some AI to try and help out when you're not controlling them, although it seems to only activate sometimes.

There's a few bugs I found:

  1. It's possible to continue attacking enemies with dead characters, even after a game over. This is because the E and Space actions still work for dead characters. (It tries to switch you back off dead characters I noticed, but if you're fast you can still hit stuff :p)
  2. The environment doesn't seem to be completely sanitized after a game over. I noticed sometimes the animation state on characters carries over, and one time the position of the beard guy carried over.

I played about 30 minutes so far, but I haven't beaten wave 2! I must be bad still, perhaps there's more to find later on. I'll try to reach wave 3.

Perfect game, 🍕/7
