  • An well-designed farming simulator with a morbid twist. The game strikes a crafty balance between the costs of the harvest, the slowly decaying body and the turn limits. I found this shaped into a game that was genuinely challenging but also quite addictive. That I was farming blood from a dying body added to the charm! Great experience.

Wonderful/creepy little experience, loved the aesthetics, felt like a decrepit tamagotchi. Only complain would maybe be to add a timer to add to the stress because it felt more confusing than scary when your body would decompose(?) but that's just a personal preference

Developer

Timer? There is the progress bar on top of the screen ticking down, isn't that something like that? Otherwise what would you want instead?

I was actually trying to come up with a way to make the decomposing feel more natural. Couldn't come up with anything I liked though. But you do very much have a point.

Thanks for giving it a try!

Might have just been a visual error on my browser because I couldn't see anything

Developer

That's very odd, do you think you can send me a screenshot of the entire game window?

Ooooh, that's a BODY! Well, if it were a little bit more graphic that would of been wonderful. I thought "oh well that's a weirdly shaped garden we have here but you know them rich ppl" :D
And a little bit more of a progression for a player to feel, like new flowers sometimes or smth (yes yes, person in gamejam wants more content :D). But I liked the game. It looks polished and well thought out. Idea I loved too!

Developer(+1)

OUCH. Yea, it being a body should really have been clarified, it's intended to be one of the central horror elements. So that's a whoopsie. More learnt for next time.

You are absolutely right about progression. Right now it's just "tutorial, heres all the toys, go have fun". I think I could have waited with bringing in the flower for a bit, and made it a bit more powerful. Then the player would be seed-starved for part of the game, and it would feel like a real addition. Adding a new kind of flower would not have been very difficult, but it would have been a bit messy fitting it into the ecosystem. Maybe it could work together with the body getting damaged by the bloodbells, and then a flower could heal that damage.

I'm actually going to write a post mortem for this in a few days, going over what the process was for coming up with all the systems in the game. And probably talking a bit about the shit I had to cut to make the game reasonable in scope, but most importantly, more fun to play. So if that something you are interested in then stay tuned :3

Hi! I wrote a post mortem for the game, reflecting a bit about how things went. Thought it might interest you since you played the game. If it does, it's avaliable at the bottom of the games page :3

Great game, I really enjoy the look and feel of the game. The art and sound design is really good. The gameplay is also really fun. Honestly, there isn't anything negative I can think of about this game. Just a really solid game!

Awesome game, Keep it upโ™ฅ

Thanks for trying it! Pico8 is my beloved when it comes to art and music (art is NOT a strong suit of mine) because it makes it so flippety flopping easy to just pump stuff out. Time for a sprite? Yea let me just click the screen a few times. Done. And I can do a lot of stuff programatically, like flashes, wiggles (the eyes for example) and just a ton of different stuff. Anyways that's me rambling.

Again, thanks a lot for giving it a try! I'll give yours a shot to while I'm at it :3

Highly recommend ! Strategic and intense.  Well balances, but should encourage the player to use more of the body fields. With some tweaks to framing and art it would be visually more clear that the body is being farmed.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for taking the time to check this out!

About encouraging more use of the fields, did you use very few of them in the start of the game, and then more later?

And yea the art, I can totally see that. Maybe something a lil more gorey with the plants actually growing into the body could work? So parts of the organs would show and stuff?

Maybe a system where the tile / body actually gets damaged after a bloodbell has been harvested could solve both those. The player would have to use different tiles, since the ones used already had to heal, and it would look way more like it really was in it.

Thanks a ton for the feedback!

I stayed on about 6 fields most of the time, in the next play through I would be more bold.

Overall I loved the art. Adding fingers to the hands or more details in a slightly higher resolution pixel style would for sure enable more gorey details. Eliminated body parts could be "ripped"off/decompose/ turn to barren bones.  Iยดd be happy support you, if you need an artist.
Tile use for the blood parts would increase difficulty. If the game becomes longer it could be balanced with regeneration while moss covers it.

Good points, I'll keep it in mind if I make a post jam version. Same with your offer!

Again, thanks for trying the game, and for giving feedback as well :3
