Cool game! I especially like the art and the vending machine dialogues (i ussually like dialogues in games).  Only complaint is combat, it feels a bit.. odd. I don't exactly know why.

Great game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much gamer!  I'm glad to hit the right notes in an area you tend to enjoy ^_^  It's interesting that the combat seems to be such a talking point because I originally had something quite mechanically different planned but had to simplify it to this.  Maybe I'll play around with introducing some other combat elements :)

So glad you had fun!

10/10 beautiful art and love the vending machine. Took me a second go to beat the boss. I did end up turning my back to the enemies to get a more instant hit. If you are looking to add anything to it after the game jam is finished I think some squishy sound effects when attacking/defeating the enemies would be very satisfying :) Great work with it anyway, you should be very proud :)

Developer

:O ahh thanks so much <3 people like you enjoying my game make it all worthwhile ^_^ Thanks for taking the time to check it out!  I'll definitely be looking to add more sound effects in a post-jam release - I didn't have any time left to look at sound during the jam so the sounds that did make it in were very much thrown together!

Submitted(+1)

Great work, I enjoyed it greatly!

Developer

Thanks friend!  I'm glad you liked it ^_^

Submitted(+1)

It's a simple game.. Also quite easy. I could just defeat everything by mashing space. It's a cool concept but it could be a little more fleshed out.

Developer

'Needs a lower difficulty setting', 'quite easy' - the joys of play testing 😅 You must be on the more experienced end of the spectrum :) thanks for checking it out, gamer!  I would love to flesh it out a little more and perfect that balance!

Submitted(+2)

Looks stunning. It would be nice if there was a lower difficulty setting for noobs like myself.

Developer

Thanks <3 Sorry about that!  Barely had time to balance this difficulty level haha

AWESOME GAME , but i do find the attacking to be annoying and also you could have added a boss health bar, other than that your game is great

Developer

Ohh man a health bar for the boss!!  Yes!  Shows my brain wasn't working at 2am.  Post jam release notes updated!  Great shout.  Thanks so much for playing, so glad you had fun ^_^

Thanks x2 ^_^

Game looks nice, I enjoyed the gameplay and the dialoges, good job!
some feedback:

  • font contrast (maybe add an outline)
  • better feedback for getting hit
  • make it clearer when you hit something, the sound comes instantly but the animation is delayed. Also the hitbox of the sword could be clearer.
  • further investigation into the hitbox revealed to me the superior strategy of always hitting the enemies while facing them with my back -> instant hits instead of delayed hits
Developer

Thank you for the beautiful feedback ^_^ great suggestion for the font outlines - I hadn't thought of that but it could be a far cleaner fix than putting in a whole box!

Yes that's right about the sword!  It's because the two attack animations were designed as primarily down and up attacks rather than left and right, which is maybe a tad confusing with how people seem to be playing.  That's cool though, I figure the combat was always going to need a little optimising with the minimal time I had to test and tweak it.  I suspect adding a running attack with a new animation would more or less solve the issue :)

Thanks for playing! <3

absolutely unforgiving, a checkpoint would have been great. I didn't beat the boss but the art was great

Developer

Sometimes that's mortality I guess!  I have been thinking that if I expand it further, checkpoints will definitely be added.  I'm glad you liked the art, and thanks for checking out my game ^_^

The game playloop is very JUICY and the color pallette/art is excellent, great work :)

Developer

Thanks gamer!  Glad to hear you enjoyed it <3

A decent game!

  • The combat seems cool, it's just lacking the ability to attack while moving. But to be fair I have no clue how to make a melee combat system.
  • The visuals are actually pretty sick, I don't agree with the the other comment, it's just lacking animations on which direction you are running and a bit of polish.
  • The animation is pretty decent for the stuff that's animated.
  • I wish there was more enemy variety.
  • The boss glitched and I was unable to kill it, cool surprise with it coming out of nowhere though.
  • The vending machine has quite a bit of character, decent writing for it.

That's about all, I enjoyed the game. Seems like you have a lot of potential for your future games!

Developer(+1)

<3 Thank you so much for all of your kind words and the great feedback!  So sorry the boss glitched for you :( that must have been frustrating!  Did it get stuck in the walls?  I had that happen in my brief testing with the smaller enemies but I thought I'd managed to (mostly) fix it for the upload.

As for enemy variety that's definitely a thing I'd like to expand on.  Even for this jam I had another enemy designed but didn't have time to properly implement the mechanics :L but that means it's going to be quick to add in after the jam!

Anyway I'm stoked you liked it, comments like this make the grind feel worthwhile ^_^

I loved the visuals! Very good game! I just found that the attack is a bit buggy when you are moving  but great game!

Developer

Thanks for playing gamer! :D I'm so glad you enjoyed it ^^

Good game. But the visuals are a bit bad. Anyways I loved it.

Developer(+1)

I'm stoked that you loved it :D thank you kind stranger, reviews like that make my day <3 I'm sensing there are some things I can improve on animation-wise for sure.  Stay tuned for a post-jam update if you're interested!

Tried the game, it gives me a little of Hyper Light Drifter vibes with that graphics. I would have preferred a better responsiveness when attacking (it took me a while to find Space button was the Attack one) and it doesn’t feel like collaborating with an AI. I think anyway for a 3 day timespan you did overall a really good job and I admire that. Can’t wait to see the improvements of the project!

Developer(+1)

Ahh TYSM that's high praise <3 Not sure if you finished the game but if you do I think the AI thing makes more sense because (spoilers) that's covered by the vending machine :) it was certainly a busy 3 days of mostly drawing things lol.  Really appreciate you taking the time to play it ^_^

Submitted(+1)

I like it, but the attacking feels a little unresponsive. The animation has WAY too much anticipation, it should happen almost instantly when the player presses space. It also doesn't seem to work when moving. The graphics and art style are pretty cool though.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing :D the attack actually is instant - the sword just swings down/backwards before going forwards (and all frames will harm the enemy).  But I seem to be getting about 50/50 comments where people aren't loving/aren't making sense of that so I may go ahead and rework it a bit post-jam.  And you're right attacking doesn't work so well while moving - another thing I'd like to add to address that post-jam is a running attack (think like Cloud's moving attack in SSBU).  Thanks for the feedback though, and I'm glad you still thought the rest of the art was cool ^_^

Submitted(+1)

Good game the swing of the weapon made me ffl like I was playng dark souls (:

Developer

Another addition to the souls-like genre haha.  I'm so glad you enjoyed it, thanks for playing ^_^

Submitted(+1)

Haven't seen many games like this one. The are a few bugs tho. Like the attack animation and the aniamtions in general. But overall good job !

Developer

Thanks for playing fellow gamer!  What was wrong with the animations though?  I haven't heard of (or noticed) any bugs with them o.O

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Had a hard time to make attacks perfectly. Only needs some more polishing. Nevertheless, it's a good game!

Developer

Thanks!  I'm glad you enjoyed it anyway ^_^

Submitted(+1)

very cool art but attacking feels janky it should instant as soon as you press the attack button instead of having to wait, cool game great job!

Developer

Thanks so much for the kind words!  The attack is instant, just visually the character swipes down and back before going forwards - or that's what I was trying for anyway >.> he's meant to be holding the sword backwards.  A couple of people have given similar feedback though so I think maybe it isn't coming across so well in the attack frames.  Oh well!  I wanted to have more interesting attack animations anyway - just got hit by the time constraint so had tried to cover two directions in one!

Submitted(+1)

Very cool style and game! The enemy's hitbox feels a bit punitive though

Developer

Thanks gamer :D do you think punitive like it's too large or as in it's too small and difficult to hit?

Submitted(+1)

The best choice would be to make a hitbox and a damage box, so that it is easier to damage the enemy but harder to be hit

Developer

For sure, I have that already for the player attacking vs not :) but was your feeling that it was too hard to hit the enemy or that it was too easy for them to hit you?

Submitted(+1)

to easy for him to hit you

Developer

Thanks!  That's super useful feedback :)
