I’ve never figured how Whisky works, i tried with parallels and it wasn’t that much playable. I would rather have standalone version or maybe I’ll figure out whisky. Do you have other suggestions? But thanks!

Whilst I haven't tried this version yet, from personal experience I can confirm that (at least) the previous version (0.8.1b) works surprisingly well on MacBook Air with Whisky. There are some issues with performance and stuff, so here are a few tips on how to make the game more playable:

1. Plug in your computer. This can significantly boost performance.

2. In the bottle's settings, make sure that DXVK is disabled. Afaik this is important to prevent a game-breaking bug.

3. Before you run the game, try to free up as much RAM as possible (this ensures better performance). You can do this by shutting down other software running in the background (especially web browsers, as they tend to consume a ton of RAM (by shutting down Safari alone I'm often able to free up several gigabytes)).

4. Once you open the game and get the initial warning screen, proceed with the "Continue" button only (you might need to click it several times). If you click any other button, the game will become unresponsive and you'll have to manually shut it down.

5. When you're in the main menu, the first thing you should do is: Go to Settings → Video → disable "Automatic screen res" setting → Apply. This is necessary to prevent a scaling bug that can make the gameplay experience awkward, if not outright unbearable.

6. Once you load into a fresh Story mode save (I don't know about other modes (besides tutorial), as I haven't tried them), you're likely to initially experience absolutely abysmal fps. This will (or at least should) resolve over time and future reloads, however, you still might want to tweak some settings to improve the performance. Some of the things you can do are: disabling volumetric lighting, decreasing render distance, lowering texture quality, lowering render resolution, disabling shadows of small objects, etc.

7. After the initial fps hurdles resolve, in most areas of the map I get around 40-60 fps. However, at the base it drops to around 15-20 fps (and it can occasionally go into single digits). Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a simple fix for this ([!spoiler warning!] I suspect the main culprit behind this fps loss to be all the garbage littering the base, however, this is not confirmed [!end of spoiler warning!]), but I noticed that keeping the lights off slightly improves the performance (less lights on = more fps).

8. I recommend completely turning off anti-aliasing. Anti-aliasing basically slightly "blurs" each pixel, making the graphics appear smoother. While this does make the environment prettier, the text on screens becomes significantly blurrier and at the highest settings can be completely illegible. This can make tasks such as hash code collection absolutely miserable, if not almost impossible. Imo, a coarser, more pixelated look is a worthy trade-off for legible text and marginally more fps.

Also, I suggest you should look up tutorials on how to play Windows games on Mac with Whisky on YouTube. Plenty of them are relatively straightforward and easy to understand.

Great advice mate!
