Nice start of a game. I'd change the controls that forward is always towards the robots face. So if I press the up key it shouldn't drive north but in the robots local forward direction.
If I do continue this game I want it to feel more like you are actually piloting a mech, so I would def try out what you suggested. Thanks for playing!
