Yeah, with GMTK having just happened there are tons of great games out there with similar ideas. Hopefully some of the additions I'm planning will help the game stand out a bit post-jam. Level design is fun but sometimes you can stare at obvious problems and not spot them! I've reworked the level you mentioned to pull it more in line with my original plan, it'll go up with the reworked version, thanks for pointing it out :).
