Just checking in to say that wow this is still my favorite minigame ever, I come back to this all the time when I just want something to poke at, and the cute yoshi faces always make me smile!

Whoof, getting that last stamp took an hour or two but it was a lot of fun. I think you balanced it just right. The facial expressions in particular are very fun and animated!!
I showed this to my partner and they said they had trouble following the arc of moving food, especially the egg because of how wiggly it is compared to the GBA version. A nice accessibility feature would be to reduce the wiggling and have the lanes more clearly marked, maybe have some vertical elements in the background art to hint at them?
I also found that in Modern mode it was difficult to judge the frying pan hitbox – a frequent frustration for me was that I’d hit myself in the head and have the food hit the ground at the same time, as though the food had phased through the pan. I think I’m actually just swinging a little too late, but it does feel like I shouldn’t be able to both hit and miss on the same swing, y’know? But I did beat it eventually.
All in all I think this is a wonderful little gem, and I’m actually really happy you used the original characters. I don’t believe you can “own” a character once they enter the cultural consciousness; they evolve into an archetype just like greek legends and such. I want to see more projects shamelessly embrace that non-ownership! Whatever happens happens, I suppose – but you made me smile and imagine a better world, and that’s a lot.
This game reminds me of what I liked about Cook Serve Delicious, but with boobs. It would be awesome if it got the CSD treatment of being fully playable with a keyboard! And the linux build even runs on Steam Deck :)
There’s a few ways to do this of course, but my preferred option would be having a separate keybind for each ingredient (plus one to milk Barbara and another to pet her). For the other menus in the game, arrow keys are probably sufficient, although being able to apply upgrades in a single button press would also be pretty sweet for milky mode.
My suggestions:
- m: milk
- v: vanilla creamer
- w: whipped topping
- i: ice
- c: coffee
- t: tea
- x: espresso
- s: sugar
- y: chocolate syrup
- b: boba
- p: sprinkles
- a: caramel
- o: cocoa powder
- shift: breast milk!
- tab: headpats <3
- esc: pause
- backspace: reset cup
- enter: serve!
quick upgrades:
- ctrl-m: Milk Coffee (+production)
- ctrl-b: Bitter Coffee (-production)
- ctrl-s: Stretchy Candy (+capacity)
- ctrl-f: Fairy Latte (insta-fill)
- ctrl-h: Extra Break (+happiness)
- ctrl-c: Calming Tea (+tolerance)
cosmetic upgrades should be available while paused, so as to not affect game balance (and because I don’t think anyone wants to memorize a keybind for every possible milk color)
The game takes clear inspiration from Panel de Pon / Puzzle Challenge, which was my favorite block puzzle when growing up because of its colorblind-friendly design. I love the aesthetic of Rhythm Match, but I think it doesn’t quite capture that colorblind-friendliness. The two most similar shapes (diagonal hexagon and diagonal square) give me a lot of trouble, because they also have the two most similar colors (green and yellow). I would recommend swapping the hexagon out for a shape with a bolder outline, such as a star, heart, inverted triangle, or “X” shape.
