Feature Requests Sticky

This thread is for new Feature requests. We'd love to hear your ideas but note that we are most likely to take on features that fit within the spirit of the tool. For example: "I want to be able to import 3D models" is not a feature we're likely to consider because this tool is for making 2D maps.

Please do not post bugs or art requests in this thread. Keeping requests topical helps us respond and implement more efficiently!

Our working roadmap is public here:

I would love a way to partially erase things I draw. For example, if in a new layer I draw a dirt path. There should be a way to clean up the path if I accedentally make a wrong line some where.

Hi Jack,

First of all, thanks for being both the first purchaser and the first poster of this tool. I feel like you should get your name in the credits or a special art request :D

If I'm understanding you correctly, you should be able to clean up and partially delete tiles on a layer. You can switch back and forth between adding and removing tiles using the buttons, or the plus and minus keys on your keyboard to switch between add/delete mode. In the next release (coming soon) I have also made some quality-of-life improvements to tool switching in general. One of those is that right clicking will now also switch between add and remove mode.

Here's a gif of how to do it. If I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to do, please let me know!

Perfect!
Either I did not see them or assumed they added/removed whole layers. My mistake.
Thank you for replying, I'm having a lot of fun playing around with your map maker so far.

We have a lot of quality-of-life features, more art, bug fixes, and perf improvements all coming in v1.1 - which we hope to release in the next week or two. We haven't updated the docs yet but in v1.1 you will be able to right click to quickly swap between "add" and "remove" modes when editing Layers. We are also improving the Item adding/editing experience a LOT.

If you haven't checked out the TerraScriber documentation, we are keeping that updated with screenshots, tips, and more. Thanks again for using TerraScriber!

The tool is easy to work with. I pressed CTRL+Z a few times thinking that's undo. Apart from the +/- buttons, I think a undo/redo keyboard shortcut will make making maps more productive especially on bigger maps.

+ it'll be nice if it could export to TMX.

Developer

Undo/Redo is on our roadmap but it's a fairly large feature (which is why we haven't built it quite yet). We're hoping to release v1.1 in the next week or so, which adds a lot of Quality of Life updates but does not add Undo/Redo. We're currently planning to ship Undo/Redo in v1.2 which is likely to release in mid to late February based on our current velocity.

TMX export is in our overall backlog but not committed to a specific version just yet. Exporting tile layers to TMX should be fairly achievable. However, TMX doesn't (as far as I know) support arbitrary item placement. So that's something that will require more investigation before we commit to that feature.

Thanks for using the tool, and your feedback!
