Hello Fan-users! Program speaking and today, we definitely do not celebrate the fact, that 2 years ago, There Is No Fangame was released!
*crickets*
Hello? Anyone?
...
So, umm, yea - this project wasn't really that big of a success that I imagined. That doesn't mean, that I'm not proud of what it achieved! The fact that there are some people, who enjoyed it made me really happy. And, from the developer's side of things, I learned a LOT about what you have to do and what you have not to do (for example, to not forget about the goddamn deltatime - imagine, that you download a game, that is not framerate independent lol am i right?) so it was a nice experience.
However, this is not what I wanted the "fangame of the awesome game" to look like. Even though I released only one "act", it still had a lot of flaws, bugs and was overall boring. I have a very hard time watching gameplay videos from this fangame, because there are A LOT of moments, where I just wanted to skip, because I knew it won't make any reaction to the player. I doubt that this is true for any bigger developer so this is not a good sign for me.
"So why can't you just work on Act 2?" - asked the passing wind
In the previous post, where I talked about suspending this project, there were already some points that can be carried over to the current status.
"Working alone would make me overworked and possibly lose interest into the project and/or the original."
Previous post mentioned, how working alone on the big fangame is problematic. That is of course still true. Lots of story writing, lots of programming, blah blah blah. But maybe the problem lays on the fact, that I'm not patient enough? Maybe I wanted to just once again rush the release of another broken Act with another boring story and elements?
"The plan for the release was made way too quick and without a closer look at it."
Who the hell was "past me" that thought "oh! i don't need plan! everything will just generate magically while developing!"? HELL NAH! Planning is one of the MOST important thing in the game industry! While improvising will definitely happen, you can't just improvise the whole story for the whole game! This is just a ridiculous thought! That's, why this project wasn't a success! That's why! That's...why. Hmmm... better planning you say?
"Outside-the-fangame stuff"
Back then, I mentioned that I'm also working on the standalone Steam game, which was always my life-goal. Well, guess what? It's still being worked on! It went through a lot of changes and it will also take some time to work on. Not only from my side, but also from the side of other members of Bit Studio. Ahhh, maybe one day. Maybe one day...
Oh, also did I mentioned that I magically learned 2D animation and is now apart of Brawl Stars artist community as a Pin (Emote) Animator? No? Well, now I did!
Besides those points, there are also some additional stuff regarding the suspension of the project:
1. I don't use Construct 2 anymore (TINF engine)
2. I don't even know, where are the project files
...
So, how am I supposed to resume the work?
Well, i won't!
But this doesn't mean the end of There Is No Fangame!
So that's why I'm presenting you...
Yup!
Completely new story! Completely new engine! Completely new experience!
...before you say anything, please refer to this quick FAQ:
"Will it be released this year?"
No
"Will it be released in 2025?"
No
"Will it be released in 2026?"
No
"Will it be released in 2027?"
...maybe?
Jokes aside - this is the project, that I DEFINITELY want to put some patience in. The story is in process of writing, the basics of the all basic mechanics are almost implemented and I have no idea, when it will be released.
This time, the fangame will not be released in acts. No, no. If I want to be somewhat proud of this project, I'm going to release it FULLY. But... it will take some time. BUT I DON'T CARE! If I want to reach my first-established goal of releasing a succesful fangame for There Is No Game, I'll be ready for this sacrifice. And I really hope, that I won't fail this time...
ANYWAY! Thank you for tuning in for this post!
As my gift for you patiently reading my definitely typo-free words, here are some screenshots showing the current process of the developement! (Not everything on those pictures is final and some stuff might change over time)
I might post some more update posts over time but only time will tell ;)
I'm very glad to be apart of this awesome community and I hope that I can create something for such wonderful people! <3
See you soon!
