A lovely, light solo RPG about being a Crow in various settings. It floats my boat! It achieves the balance I like between giving you story prompts whilst also having enough mechanics to make it truly a game and not just a story writing guide. The prompts are really great as they utilise key words like [Object]. You then refer to the given random table. This ensures a large variation of prompts from one single entry. Cool! Grab the Scenario expansions, its all good!
The continuing evolution of Plot Unfolding Machine on your computer. Now with its own app! Its early days but this is a fully functioning app. Its all you need to solo roleplay (minus your fave RPG of course) including writing journal entries, rolling dice and keeping track of characters! Highly recommended.
Version 2 of this post apocalyptic delivery service solo RPG is very welcome indeed. The rules have been tightened up and made clearer and factions are now more alive. Also more art. Wonderful!
Notorious part 2 - This time its on the the outside! An essential stand alone expansion.
Add Plot Unfolding Machine to your computer via an extension called Espanso. You type simple shortcuts and it pulls random results from any of the tables in PUM wherever you are in your PC. Ingenious!
A fantasy solo RPG with mechanics based on MMORPG’s. This allows you to play it anywhere between straight up dice game and full on RPG. I like somewhere in the middle as I need my hand held by the system. I’m just not as fluent at soloing as I’d like to be.
There’s a great bestiary with original monsters too. Recommended!
A concise, elegant solo engine that I highly rate. At this point I’d say its pretty much my favourite. I use it with elements taken from its sister products Game Unfolding Machine and Scene Unfolding Machine. The author works tirelessly on revising his products but I think at this point P.U.M. is at near perfection.
I always struggle with finding the balance between player agency and the feeling of not being in control of the world my character moves through. P.U.M. Handles this perfectly for me with 2 elegant tables: ‘Modified Proposal’ or ‘Random Prompt’.
P.U.M. Certainly owes a debt of gratitude to Mythic G.M.E. but it is more concise and gives you more direction when you need it. It is also less tied to the system of random word prompts* which I am not overly fond of.
*note - the ‘Random Prompt’ table actually gives very direct answers that tie in to your plot very well.
I love playing RPG’s solo but I constantly struggle with them. Determination has kept me going. Nexalis has been a massive help for me. I really feel that its framework helps those who aren’t that good at soloing in a way that I haven’t encountered before. I highly recommend it!
A Solar Punk RPG that definitely deserves more attention.
This has to be the king of relaxed, RPG Light, Sci Fi exploration games. Get the expansions too. Its a blast!
Star Wars-ish, Bounty Hunter, solo journaling game. Great mechanics ensure its as much about gameplay as creative writing. Losing is just as much fun as winning!
