Tengoku Project is a series of bullet hell games.
Ordinary girls are chosen to become "Angels" and fight using their magical powers to protect Heaven from invasion.
The mainline games are touhou-inspired vertical shooters, and the side games put different spins on the bullet hell experience.
The end of the cursed leaves arc, which started in Tengoku 3, and the second part of the café arc from Tengoku 2.5.
I think this is the best game in the series so far, and it's not even because of the maids. It's got a lot of content and there's a high amount of polish in the gameplay.
I really like all the music that's in the game too.
That said, I'm beginning to feel like making another vertical shmup game soon.
The end of the spirits arc, and the beginning of the cursed leaves arc.
The idea for the story of this game came to me a while ago, and I was originally intending it to be the first game in the series, but I felt like I should wait until I'd gotten better at making bullet hell games. That choice seems to have paid off, because I really like the level of polish in the gameplay.
The only thing I'd say is that the music feels a bit less interesting than Tengoku 2; something I'd like to improve in the future.
This game has the number 3.15, but it actually takes place between Tengoku 2 and 3, making it the second part of the spirits arc.
It's a nice evolution of the Tengoku 1.5 gameplay, although these types of boss rush games can feel a bit empty once you've completed them.
This game is the first one in the series to be made in Godot, which meant a Japanese translation could easily be added. I'll be sticking to Godot from now on.
The beginning of the café arc.
This was a fun game to develop, although the new camera mechanics gave me some new coding challenges to overcome. It was fun working with a team again and the music and art came out really well!
The beginning of the spirits arc.
Compared to Tengoku 1 and 1.5 which were made for a month long game jam, this one was made as a personal project, with about 6 months of development time.
The bosses and enemies are way more elaborate than Tengoku 1, which meant I struggled to come up with ideas during the latter half of the game. Even so, I'm happy with how it turned out. The music, art and gameplay have all progressed a lot since Tengoku 1. It's also got 2 playable characters!
The first .5 Tengoku Project game! This one's a horizontal shmup and is a boss rush style game. I'm happy with how this turned out considering the amount of experimenting I did here. I want to try mixing danmaku with more genres like this in the future.
The very first Tengoku Project game. It's not bad considering my lack of experience and time limit, but it doesn't really compare to later games.
I really like the atmosphere I created though, especially the dreamlike music. The whole thing feels very surreal.
