The games made with my Grenblyn Gang!! It's a collective of queer & non-binary artists with whom we make cute games, usually featuring NB characters <3 The core is mostly my böi asmar, and sometimes he brings his [girl/boy/ ]friends as well!
Up to now they were all made in game jams, and usually the Ludum Dare! Maybe this will change? Who knows!
Made in basically 48 hours for LD 54 by the grenblyn gang!
And it felt SO GOOD to have beautiful artwork by asmar FOR A BOARDGAME, joined by grizembrrr who created icons that are FILLED with personality, and KT who KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK with their treasure illustrations!! LIKE DAMN I didn't know that person could Actually Draw This Fucking Well! (Also it vectorized surprisingly easily and cleanly even if it was a scan with shitty image quality.)
AND HOU I THINK WE MADE SOMETHING REALLY GOOD THIS TIME! It's a fun little roll&write/dice-(worker)-placement solo game. First Grenblyn Boardgame!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm just really sad none of the grenblyns (myself included) had the time or energy to play a lot of games from the Ludum Dare, because we ended up getting very little in terms of comments and feedbacks. But most of them were Really Nice and sweet and cute and encouraging!
And so people are asking for multiplayer ways to play, which... Might be in the pipes somewhere. As well as MANY features to improve replayability. I took cares to lay out foundations for easy expansions of the game's systems.
I have big plans but if you know me at all you know that... It doesn't mean I'll follow through with them, because I'm always working on The Next Thing. But probably no one reads this so? You don't know? In which case this is also a way to tell you this in case you care.
ALSO I played the Isle of Cats roll&write boardgame recently, and it's really close to this!! But also different enough, which makes me really happy!!
ALSO ALSO I've never written rules this fast WHICH MEANS I'M MAKING PROGRESS and it feels really good, and I've also never been as able as I am these days to create games that are almost immediately at least "pretty fun" and "pretty interesting," so it's like, my design is getting more "accurate"? AND IT'S SO GRATIFYING OH MY GOD to be moving away from the COMPLETELY BROKEN MESSES I used to make lmao.
Anyways play this if you feel like it, it's just 2 A4 pages to pring, five 6-sided dice, (you're a nerd you have this in your house) and like an hour of your time (rules included).
Made in 72h for Ludum Dare 53!
21st in Graphics, 47th in audio and 54th in mood. It's kind of usual that we get top 100 in mood, I think that's one of our forte. Finally a top 100 for graphics! asmar deserves it so much! Also top 100 in audio again, the boy is killing it.
OH MAN! New Ludum Dare, new Hen-Bee pal, new game, wow!
We went back to Godot again for this one! And with the same developer we had on Ariel Cleanomancer!
But this time we tried doing... Something way too ambitious and experimental!!! (We overscoped.) We used ink, but like I was the only person in the team with any experience with the language, which created a huge integration bottleneck. We also used a framapad and google doc as our source-control solution lmao. (It works???? kinda?????) It was extremely chaotic! (As usual??)
BUT! It was also really fun, and I enjoyed that week-end a lot!! Also, the parents of my goddaughter were there and I love them and I love her, and the mother is awesome and cooked for us during the jam (we helped though!) and it was soooo niceee.
ALSO, I had never written so much ink script, I did all the logic for the ink, and integrated the elements written by the team - so we had 3 dedicated writers, actually! As usual I didn't allocate enough time for integration, and I tried to cram in many features the writers were asking for but that we didn't really use in the end. Just dev things I guess. I learned a lot though! So, game is a bit scuffed but we poured lots of love into it and I'm still happy about it in the end.
Also I'll never forget that moment where I was trying to pitch a flow for the core gameplay loop and I realized they wanted the "main character to be a letter that sends itself" and I like, had to do a double take and went like, "but.. no one will understand this???" and they were all so cute doing baby deer eyes like "pleaaase can it be a letter that sends itself" that I just had to yield. I love these goofs.
(These are getting way out of hand!!!)
Made in 72h for Ludum Dare 51! 37th in Mood and 93rd in audio. What's incredible is that all sound design and music was made by asmar between like midnight and 2AM while he was coming back from running experiments for his PhD thesis, and basically falling asleep as he did.
That was very fun to make! First time really using ink. Kind of four stories running parallel to one another with several variations to each one, but the contemplative nature of the game makes it hard to replay. Weird shit, and also a completely stupid way to build this thing.
Made in 72h for Ludum Dare 50! 9th in Innovation and 38th in Audio this time! A wonderful job by our beloved goddess Nuelijarma on the music, and by Grizembrrr and Quentin for the Voice Acting.
Another weird ludo-narrative artifact for the pile. I'd say this is on brand. My god, I still love that little instagram isometric pic of the room so much. It's insane how that made my prose and design flow, I was stuck before I saw it, and then it was effortless just building upon it!
Made in 48h for the GGJ 2022 (kind of). Once again, no dev, no problem, just make a pdf full of hyperlinks. Although, man, that illustrator file was a mess! It crashed my computer like six or seven times. But I had so much fun making this!
Grizembrrr really helped reassure me so much during the jam. It's always so good working with asmar and his husbando, I love them so much <3
Hell yeah, 5th in innovation and 26th in mood for Ludum Dare 49!
Really happy with those results, especially for some super weird insane interactive-fiction-solo-tabletop-RPG thing. Making strange ludo-narrative artifacts is so empowering and my favorite gender.
Made for Ludum Dare 48! 93rd Overall, my first (of many???) top 100!!
I wasn't sure how it'd work, but just making something simple to the best of our abilities really paid off. I had so much fun making the level design for this! The tools by Chimyx were really clean. I love puzzle design so much!
