A minute-long horror game about life, perspective, and perseverance.

6.2/10 - A game with 2 perspectives, (5-10 mins both endings), this game is a game of two endings as both offer different perspectives on the situation. Although the concept and idea is great, I think the gameplay is slightly infuriating especially to get one of the endings which requires a lot of button mashing, however there is a trigger point of when that is only required which I realized on my 4th go. Overall it's a game that is interesting but doesn't offer much in terms of story, horror or excitement for me and it just left me with tense forearms!

7.2/10 - Just a game about Real Estate :) , (20 mins), enjoyed touring the house and finding it's secrets. Mechanically this game is a throwback to the point and click era of games which works for the purpose of the game. I thought the game did a great job in it's dialogue and certain aspects of comedy which benefits the contrast that the game has.

* spoiler for later in the game below *

The game does a good job at building up the horror elements in this game as you progress you will be more confused and slightly unnerved. However I think the last 3rd of the game is the weakest part of the game as although it kept me on my toes, it relied on average horror tropes, which is slightly frustrating as there was a lot of potential to make the last third absolutely scary/horrifying. I thought all in all if you don't go into it expecting anything then you will have a nice surprise but even without the surprising aspect, it's still a solid game which does so well with it's setup, story and mechanic simplicity.

6/10 - Interesting mechanics but not much more, (5 mins), this game contains an unique mechanic which helps you descend in the world, I personally enjoyed the main mechanic but I also didn't as it was buggy at times. However the more you play the more you understand how exactly the mechanics work. The simple but dark visuals are good but the music is what stands out to me as being great and reminiscent of Inscryption. However that's about it in terms positives as this game does feel like a half baked demo or prototype for one mechanic which isn't bad considering this was made in 48 hours but I expected slightly more. In addition the game is slightly buggy with how you can descend!

A short proof of concept/mood vignette/love letter to Kurosawa.
Visual Novel

7/10 - Unique, strange, unorthodox Art, (2-6 mins), The game has such a unique style to it in terms of how it's located on your computer screen and how it opens up as you look at each persons story. The visuals are strong and the audio is dark and unnerving. The story was interesting but I came out of it not knowing if I fully understood it. The game feels like an art exhibition and less than a game, an experience which you might or might not like coming out of it.  I personally enjoyed it but I wish the story was expanded on and the game is buggy with how the interact system works. However it's not a game that  you usually come across and for that reason it's worth experiencing!

INVESTIGATE. INTERROGATE. INCARCERATE.

7.2/10 - A step up from the Spiritual Prequel, (30 - 40 mins), this game is an improvement over the previous game in mechanics and choice which leads to you feeling more like a detective compared to the prequel. The game centers around the death of a man where you have to find out who killed him between 3 people. The 3 characters you interrogate are all interesting as they all offer a different dynamic and they are all written well. The game has an intriguing concept that hasn't been explored a lot and it does a great job at it. I like how there are 6 different endings dependent on your investigation skills ( I got the correct ending on my 2nd go ). Although it's an solid game, it's not as engaging replaying a second time if you didn't get the correct ending the 1st time, unless you'd enjoy playing the game with hindsight which can make the game more interesting for you. There are issues with glitches and bugs which I encountered quite a few times myself. I also wish this game was more connected to the previous game or there were some answers to the end of the spiritual prequel ( there are small references around to the prequel ). But overall this was an fun experience and I wish I could see more games like this or even another sequel to the series!

Explore the town. Find the clues. Solve the murder.

6.8/10 - Strange Detective Investigation (Spiritual Prequel), (15 mins), simple but interesting little game about the killing of one person, you find gather information by chatting with specific characters to see what is going on. The gloomy setting with the mystery of the people in this town, in addition to a mysterious character that disappears throughout the game leads to an interesting setting. I also enjoyed the story although I slightly predicted what will happen. I think the gameplay isn't that gripping as it's just a walking sim with a file which you use to find out information and it has elements that I would've slightly changed. The ending sequence is done well as it leaves you confused and want to find out what happens next as the ending is slightly ambiguous but also slightly disappointing to me! There is a spiritual sequel to this game however that is set in the same world however it doesn't really continue from the end of this game which makes the ending of this game slightly more disappointing.

7.1/10 - Simple but atmospherically tense, (5-10 mins), the atmosphere with the audio and the feeling of dread the lower you go is genuinely great. There's a feeling that you are being followed (I swear I seen something far away at one point) and that you don't belong in this foreign place. It slightly reminds me of the backrooms where things aren't as they should be. The game is great at conveying fear and it does a great job at showing that off in it's limited time. I do wish the game would be expanded on and the end feels a bit anti climactic as the buildup is amazing at being tense. But I can see this game become a horrifying experience if worked on further!

Halloween night turns deadly when five friends decide to throw a party in an abandoned arcade.
Adventure

6.4/10 - Demo that sets up story for something bigger, (15 mins), I enjoyed this small introduction to the game as you meet the characters and are put into the prologue to what the game will be. It's basically just a click and talk demo with nothing scary but some creepy backstory to what you're going into. I really appreciate the location, visuals and the characters in the demo but I feel like the demo was too short and wish there was more, such as showing the threat that will be in the game and playing a bit in the new location. Either way i'm interested to see what the full game delivers!

A 5-minute lofi horror vignette, part of the Haunted PS1 2019 Jam.
Interactive Fiction

6.7/10 - Claustrophobic experience, (5 mins), short but creepy experience especially if you have issues with claustrophobia. The game has a sense that you are being physically and mentally pressed together. It's a unique game with how the game covers someone suffering with a mental illness whether it's depression or something else, in addition it has a simple but effective setting that works well to show how your mind can feel when suffering. I also enjoyed that it doesn't overstay its welcome!

You star in tonight's episode of... The Midnight Zone

6.3/10 - Cool idea that falls a bit short, (5-10 mins), a game that questions your reality and even uses information in your computer to question you. However interesting this concept sounds, I feel like this game is very basic and underwhelming at what it does. It would be more exciting if it was expanded on and even introduced more horror elements as some of the elements that are in the game work really well.

Last days before the skies of Huta-Grobno city turned red
Adventure

8.4/10 - A special game that blew me away, (2/3 hours), This game is a work of art and you can see the amount of work put into every aspect of this game. Whether it's the story, the visuals, the location, the small details and how alive the world feels. There is always something going on whether it's small story elements on the radio or people doing something outside your apartment, these details change after you do something and it makes the world feel alive. I loved reading all the newspaper articles and I spent a lot of time just looking at all the small details, these things made the world feel so real. I also really enjoyed the Eastern Block setting as there's references to multiple countries in that area. Going into this game blindly and seeing how the story progressed was an experience that I thoroughly enjoyed and I'm so impressed by the people who created this game as it's a concentrated and alive world with so many details. There are also creepy horror elements across this game that make you feel slightly uneasy but there's nothing scary in this game, but the idea of this game can definitely be considered as scary. There are 2 endings that really differ, I suggest that you play both as they are both key to understanding the story! I do wish the endings were slightly expanded on but this is the only small gripe I have about the game!

Simulation

7.6/10 - Psychotic Trip, (15 mins), It's definitely not what I expected. I don't think I've come out of any media being even more scared of drugs outside of "requiem for a dream". This game is strange, grimy, experimental, and it's effective at those aspects. It's an experience which is not for everyone but you might love it. Although this is a great game, I wish It was slightly expanded on in story and gameplay but i'm impressed with this game considering it was created in a week!

7.7/10 - Small visual feast with a fun concept, (20 - 25 mins), it's a demo to a full game that will come out. I'm excited for the full game because this demo has a lot going for it whether it's the visuals, the locations, the tasks you perform and the comedy, it all ties in to create an enjoyable experience as you just go with the flow and enjoy the game. There's so much more I want to say about how great it is but sometimes in life you just keep it simple, and this game is simple but great at what it does. The game offers some horror elements/ references but they are a small aspect of the game in the whole scheme of things and as a whole there isn't anything tense, scary or creepy in the game, but that's okay because the game works well with what it delivers in terms of the themes in the demo. I also don't have any negatives or bugs that I encountered in the demo and I'm just excited to see more from it!

A gothic horror tale - recruit ghosts to help you write your latest symphony

7.1/10 - Visuals and sound design are amazing but gameplay is lackluster, (15-20 mins), I can't understate how great the sound design and music is. In addition to having pixelated but detailed graphics and amazing lighting, this game is a visual and auditory feast ( I played the restrung version which contains RTX ). The game has a gothic and slightly creepy atmosphere as you come across situations where you hear noises around you as if you're about to be chased. I also enjoyed the strange but creepy ending in this game. However the story is slightly confusing as there isn't much information or lore, all you have to figure out are your surroundings, the ghosts and the violin. I thought the gameplay was a bit boring as there was no challenge from the violin or the ghosts, this meant I was just finding ghosts that can't attack you by playing a violin and exorcising them by just holding 2 buttons at the same time. If you want a game to appreciate visuals, an atmosphere and sound design whilst not really caring for gameplay then this is the game for you!

Aqua Catholicism; Explore Man's Original Sin Under The Sea
Adventure

7.2/10 - Dark strange world, (20-25 mins), this game presents an interesting dark world that has a lot of religious connections and lore which would need to be further looked into to be fully understood. The world as a whole can easily be explored more as I can see more games in this world. I could even see a more full scale game with more mechanics and more freedom being made as there's a lot of potential. Visually this game is striking and I really really like how it looks.  Mechanically it's a basic game and a bit underwhelming compared to everything else. I just think the water exploration is a bit lackluster and the movement mechanic is annoying as there's an invisible wall. But as a whole the game is a dark but a compelling experience which I recommend to people who likes arg or analog horror type videos or games!

Step into the pages of the old Wyrd Tales comics and unravel the mystery of the crater in the woods.
Adventure

6.3/10 - Interesting but slightly disappointing, (5-10 mins), I know that this is a demo but with how the game is presented I was expecting a much longer experience with a lot more elements to the game. The game has an weird vibe that something more is going on, with the addition of the tools and items that you have, I was expecting a slightly more in depth game. The Visuals of the game are striking especially in the second half of the game as you experience the thing flying in the sky which was really exciting and it looked great, even encountering the strange thing is a weird and slightly creepy experience. But the game is lackluster in what you do and the ending was a bit eh in my opinion, but there is a lot of unrealized potential with this game!

Game Jam Winning Camp Building Extraterrestrial Horror Experience
Survival

7.3/10 - Damn.... , (15 mins), A story that is even more interesting in hind site. I expected the way the game would end, the way it did however it was still done masterfully. The actual game itself is very simple and the graphics are basic but also somewhat pretty. But the game is carried by how great the story telling and ending is. Just go into the game blind and enjoy the story!

7/10 - Very simple but very challenging, (15/20 mins to beat), It's short and sweet but only if you learn from your mistakes in the game. It's about trial and error and understanding your surroundings and what you can do to progress. Everything in this game is simple excluding the gameplay (it's also simple when you understand everything but complex when you don't), but that's the part of the game that stands out. Someone said it's a very mini rainworld and I would agree! My gripes with the game is that I wish it was expanded on as it's too short and I wish there was more to the game whether it's more animals or more to the story such as chapters. I also slightly disliked how it showed the text after every death which got slightly annoying as I wish it was skippable straight away. But this is a great game for how simple it looks!

Short Gothic Mystery set in Taiwan
Adventure

7.3/10 - Makes me want to play more, (30 mins), Enjoyable game with a solid premise and dark atmosphere that ends with a cliffhanger. I enjoyed a lot of aspects of this game coming from story, to the vibe (not scary or creepy but is dark), to the slightly deep-fried visuals, to the Pokemon like fights with enemies but with a twist. The game is inspired by certain anime's and games like corpse party.  I also really like the message that the game provides about hope. I do have a few small issues with the game such as the camera being slightly annoying at times and there's a few small bugs but overall I don't have any big issues or critiques with the game except for the ending. The thing that disappointed me with the ending was that I got into the flow of the game and was expecting the game to keep going but it ended on a cliffhanger which may be continued in the future ( The next chapter or part of the game might be/ might not be available by the time this review is being read by you ).

Journey through a dark fever dream...
Adventure

7.4/10, A pretty, confusing and strange little game, (50-60 mins), It's a game that isn't scary or too tense but I thoroughly enjoyed how pretty the art style is at times, how nice of soundtrack it has, and how you want to find out more about the story and other aspects of the game. I enjoyed the characters, the locations and scenarios you come across as it builds a solid world, but the game is hard to fully understand sometimes as it bounces from scenario to scenario. I also think certain scenes drag out slightly too long at times and the end of the game is slightly under cooked. But as a whole it's a really enjoyable experience, with an atmosphere that has really stayed with me for a long time. I recommend that you go into the game not expecting insane gameplay or to understand everything but go along with the vibe of the game as it's what carries the game for me! The story becomes more understandable if played multiple times and there was supposed to be a continuation/ sequel to the game but it was cancelled :(

Stroll through the waters of a concrete realm.
Adventure

6.6/10, I'm confused, (30 mins), It's a game I want to love and certain aspects I do but as a whole the game feels like a dark decrepit art piece with lsd sprinkled on it. It's an acquired taste, but it doesn't hit that taste for me. I enjoyed the artstyle, the weird world, the sounds, the statue characters but it all feels like a hollow walk towards nothingness with sprinkled hope, with a story that is hard to understand. It's strange and weird, but in my opinion underdeveloped and it drags slightly too long for what it is!

The light will lead you home
Puzzle

6.9/10 - Emotional but predictable, (20-25 mins), It's a deep story as you find yourself on an island trying to get to the lighthouse, the story evolves as you play and it places a good but sad narrative. I went into the game expecting to be scared but came out slightly melancholic. I also enjoyed the graphics and atmosphere of the game. I found the story was predictable pretty early on in the game but it still worked well. I think the main characters voice acting was okay but could've been slightly better!

Clean the windows of a rich family's home during a suspiciously quiet night.
Adventure

6.8/10 - Effective at what it is, (15 mins), good game that puts you as a window cleaner in a house that has a strange occurrence, you just clean windows and see how the story plays out. I enjoyed the sequences and the vibe of the game, I do think the cleaning was slightly repetitive and the atmosphere wasn't that scary but it did have some creep factor to it. The scares in this game are done well and it does a good job at catching you out!

This is the last house you need to put up flyers in!
Adventure

6.3/10 - A good tense premise that is missing aspects, (20 mins), the idea of a 9 story apartment building where each story slightly changes is a great idea, however each story doesn't differentiate enough from each other. The game instills a good atmosphere as you feel like you're about to get chased and it does build up the elements of horror well. However the game has things i'm not particularly impressed by as it feels like an asset flip as certain assets have generic text and the assets don't match sometimes, the game also could've had an even better climax but it slightly let me down. Overall the game has a lot of potential if it was worked on more but in the end it feels underdeveloped!

Short horror where you play as a house sitter, experiencing strange occurrences in a seemingly ordinary home.
Adventure

6.8/10 - Fun and creepy little game, (20 mins), the game builds an weird  atmosphere as you  know something is off, you walk around the house checking what's beside you as you're not sure what's around the corner. It's a simple game but it does a good job at building a good horror premise, that paired with the clapping mechanic makes the game more creepy. It contains a good jumpscare and is slightly tense. But I do think the build up to the finale of the game is better than the finale itself as it feels too short, however I did enjoy it. Overall it's a short and sweet experience that is enjoyable for what it is! There are also a few small bugs in the game!

Game based on a Japanese urban legend
Survival

6.5/10 - A creepy game that I wish did more in the end, (20 mins), the gameplay is basic, graphics are good and the atmosphere in the game is great especially when you're in the store. The audio and the quietness of the whole place paired with random noises or situations really catch your attention. Some of these events that happen make you startled and interested to know what's going on. I also enjoyed the conversations and slight lore about teke teke and I really think the jumpscare in the game as it's done well. However there are a couple things that make me disappointed me such as both endings felt abrupt to me. And I wish there was a bigger buildup to the good ending as it ends up feeling eh. The setting also doesn't feel too Japanese to me and that slightly pulls you out of the story.

‘goth gf’s iPhone’ airdrops you - accept or decline? A love/horror story about life, death, & memes.
Visual Novel

7.2/10 - Dark and short teen-like narrative game, ( 35 mins all endings ), it's a game that highlights the hidden struggle of people and it covers a lesbian relationship. It does a good job at covering those topics but I do find slight aspects of the game as slightly cringey and teen-like. But it does do a good job at bringing awareness of what people can experience behind closed doors. I think the art-style is nice and I really like the music selection in the game as it suits the feeling of the game. My biggest downfall of the game is that it doesn't develop the characters and story enough, as for me Amy's story-line feels underdeveloped and falls short compared to May who takes center focus and who's situation is more interesting in the game. I also would've loved to expand the game and make the endings more surprising as I slightly expected them, however you might not expect them!

Game about cooking tiny creatures
Simulation

6.6/10 - Strange but slightly dark Job Simulator, (20 mins), The graphics and the whole vibe and setting of the game are absolutely great and I really like the art style. Coupled with an interesting idea as you create creatures in an interesting manner. The whole game feels like working a days job on your first shift in a weird room with a screen that talks to you. Although the setting is interesting, the game is slightly lacking in gameplay as you're performing the same actions through the game without any major consequence. It's a game that would need to be heavily expanded on in story and gameplay to be great!

A Liminal Horror game for GBJam.
Adventure

5.6/10 - Stylistic but lacks many important aspects, (15-20 mins), I really appreciate the style and vibe of the game even if it wasn't scary or creepy. It has a story that I didn't fully understand due to how it's told but I got the gist of it. The walking mechanic would be great if there was something chasing you however walking around feels like driving a car on ice. The game is severely repetitive due to how you progress in the story, it would've been more interesting if the environment changed more as even the end scene felt refreshing after slogging my way through the house for about 90% of the game. The song replaying throughout the game started to become annoying due to it being just a short melody replayed over and over. There is much potential but there's important aspects of the game that need to be improved!

It's Not Violence.
Action

7.7/10 - Dark, fun, confusing but meaningful, (15-20 mins), a beautiful game in retrospect that makes you realize the horrors of life, it's a unique and an artistically great game. The gameplay is fun and makes you numb from the actual message of the game. But in the end it sends a message to you and it stays with you for a bit! The game is not perfect but it's a special game that has it's purpose.
