At LAY3RZ we aim to empower game developers and explore novel ideas in game development to push the industry forward.

In this jam we are exploring an interesting and unusual use case for NFTs in games. NFTs have often been considered as merely in-game items but we are looking to try something new. We want to see how NFTs can be used as a fun new way to interact with games.

Imagine having an NFT that could trigger a crazy event simultaneously across all of your favorite games. Maybe it causes a rain of diamonds in Minecraft, or a rainf of legendary tier items all around the world in your favorite Action-RPG, or it summons a terrifying new world boss in your favorite MMORPG, or suddenly enables superpowers for all players in your favorite MOBA or Battle Royale game, or maybe it does all of the above simultaneously. We want to explore the potential of NFTs to trigger awesome events across different games and we need your help to achieve that.

Theme

Instead of a theme, at the beginning of this jam we are going to announce a set of images of items which will be "triggerable" NFTs on our platform LAY3RZ. For the duration of the jam, your challenge will be to integrate a mechanic inspired by those items into a game in the most creative way possible.

For example, we might provide an image of a battery and you could make a game where whenever this battery effect is "triggered", everything in the game starts running faster. Or whenever a "gamepad" item is triggered, the controls in the game must go haywire (left is right and up is down).  You might even decide that new levels, items, bosses or other content will be unlocked whenever the item is "triggered". We encourage you to get as creative with the effects as you like. You do not need to integrate all items but you need to integrate at least one.

Technical Info

Those items will not exist within your game. Instead they will be what is known as an NFT and will exist on our NFT platform, LAY3RZ. Since this game jam is not centered around blockchain, you do not need to know much about NFT or crypto and you can think of an NFT simply as an item outside of any game, of which only one copy exists, and which is owned by only one person. You do NOT need to own any NFTs or cryptocurrency to participate. Everything will be completely free. 

Each NFT can be "triggered" via our website/platform. Whenever this NFT is triggered, an event will be logged in our database. You will need to send a GET request to our API to get the "trigger" events for the item(s)/NFT(s) you are interested in and based one that you need to make something happen in the game. This holds for both single player and multiplayer games.  In single player games, the trigger event will cause something to happen in all instances of the game. For example, when I "trigger" the "Fireworks" NFT via the website, then in all running instances of your game around the world, fireworks will start going off everywhere and will be noticeable by all players.

Rules

1. You must join our Discord: https://discord.gg/f9eaNt4qX4
2. Your submissions should be free to play. If you have a paid game. You must provide a playable free demo version. 
3. You must integrate at least one Item Event into your game.
4. The event should affect all players playing the game simultaneously (or at least be noticeable by them).
5. You can integrate the item effects in a new game that you have made just for this jam or in an already existing game. However, you must specify whether your game was made during the game jam or existed before that.
6. The focus of the competition is on developing cool and creative item effects and the mechanics around them. We do not recommend that these are the main mechanics of your game but they should add a fun twist to an otherwise awesome game whenever they are triggered. 

Ranking

Fun - is the game original and fun to play?
Polish - is the game complete and polished with little to no bugs and with appropriate visuals and sound?
Creative use of item trigger events - How fun and creative is the triggered event? Are players encouraged to visit the website and trigger it themselves?

Prizes

500$ - 1st place
200$ - 2nd place
100$ - 3rd place
50$ - 4th place
25$ - 5th place
25$ - 6th place

Will be paid out in a cryptocurrency stablecoin, such as BUSD or USDT. 
We reserve the right to not pay out some of the prizes if there are not enough qualifying submissions.
