The Maliyo Summer Game Jam 2023 is a game development marathon with the objective of creating a mobile game in 7 days! The jam will be unique because of the theme... A theme is a topic on which your game should be made!

 The jam will follow this schedule: 

• Application Closed July 17th 
  
• July 24th (Monday, 10 am WAT) - Theme reveal + Official Start
• July 31st (Monday, 11 pm WAT) - End date & Submissions
• August 4th (Friday, 10 am WAT) - Results

GAME JAM THEME 

AFROFUTURISM: Create games that explore futuristic African settings, incorporating elements of technology, culture, and creativity.

BENEFITS OF A GAME JAM

1. It helps to improve your time management skills
2. It helps to increase your game development speed
3. It improves your game prototyping skills
4. It teaches you how to work in a team
5. It helps to lower your fear of experimentation in game development

JUDGING  CRITERIA:

•    Gameplay ( How fun is your game)    
•    Creativity    
•    Presentation ( How polished is your game in terms of graphics and sound)
•    Adherence to the theme

RULES

1. Your game must be made within the time frame. 
2. Please keep your game free of harmful content. Entries containing excessive gore, nudity, and strong language will be disqualified.
3. Any free non-copyright assets can be used... This includes music, sprites and models. You can also create your own asset
4. All submissions must be made right here on this page
5. Once that countdown is done, you cannot edit your submissions any further. It is recommended that you upload your project at least 2 hours before the deadline.
6. Make sure your game runs on mobile and submissions must be an apk file. 

RECOMMENDATIONS

1. Make games from any genre of your choice 
2. Feel free to pitch your game idea using the community tab on itch.io if you’re looking for people to join your team
3. Plan your deliverables on a day-to-day basis and divide tasks amongst yourselves if you’re working as a team. 
4. You can also work solo if that’s your preference. 
5. Keep your game minimal, you only have 7 days, so try not to overdo it
6. Use the community tab to ask general questions to the Maliyo Games team. We will try to respond as quickly as possible. 
7. Make new friends and build something you’ll be proud of.
