It's summer! (Basically.)

For me, this means that I finally have some time to work on the creative projects that I haven't had time to work on while being a full-time student for the rest of the year. I posted about this recently, and had a lot of people express similar sentiments.

So, this is me extending that creative spirit to all of you! (And also stealing from Viditya and Dillin's self-indulgent birthday game jams.) The deadline for this is August 30th, 2024, at midnight eastern time, because August 29th is my 21st birthday! Hence the name of the jam.

What should I make?

Most of all, I want people to spend this time working on the projects they're excited for and passionate about. That project you've been meaning to get to for a while, but haven't sat down to work on. The project that you think is a little ridiculous. Something self-indulgent, because cringe culture is dead and I, Barclay, personally killed it.

It doesn't have to be a full game, it doesn't even have to be half of a game. It could be one playbook. It could be a little piece of flash fiction. Whatever your beautiful heart desires.

That being said, if you don't have something like that right now, here's a couple of Barclay staples & traits that may inspire you:

  • Werewolves
  • Romance games (both in the typical romcom way and the "i hate you so much that we need to circle back to being in love" way)
  • Games of hope and resistance
  • Getting real weird with gender and sexuality
  • Worldbuilding games
  • GMless games
  • Musicals, and theatre in general
  • On that, Shakespeare! Make a Shakespeare adaptation! There aren't enough of those in games!
  • Ace Attorney is one of my big media special interests
  • Spies also. They're far down the list because it's obvious.
  • Other things probably. Check out my Twitter, I'm reallll loud about my interests there
  • Something based on my work, if you really wanna flatter me

I encourage you to charge for your games, or at least make them Pay What You Want! Your work is worth charging for, I promise!
