90s Singles Jam!

Those songs. You know the ones. You hear them and you immediately head back in time. The words come to you even if you hate them. Well, now it's time to do something with the brain space those songs occupy.

The Premise: Write a game of any kind, based on the title, characters, themes, or lyrics of a radio single released in the 1990s.

The Requirements:

  • Get the game done by the end of the day on January 31, 2020.
  • The song must have been a single in the 1990s. Not '89, not 2000. Yeah, that leaves some really 90s-feeling songs out, but time is all relative so that'd happen no matter the break point. If you're not sure a song was a single, check Wikipedia (it's a valid enough source for this kind of thing)
  • Singles outside of the US are very welcome! Bring some variety!
  • Tell us, somewhere, what song you're using. Doesn't have to be the title, or from a lyric, just let us know.
  • Bigotry, sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or anything of the like won't be tolerated in any submissions. Be better than some of the people who wrote 90s singles.
  • Have fun!

EXTENSION

In honor of the Barenaked Ladies, you all have: One Week to submit your game, wrapping up all your work so there is no shame

Five days for a draft complete because finishing up your projects feels real neat

Three days for a peer review. There still might be something more that you could do, true?

Yesterday, or just smiled at me and said I need a few more days, I'm so sorry

(sorry, not sorry, y'all have more time now)
