UPDATE FOR THE FINAL RELEASE:
I'm honestly speechless; I can't put into words how MEANINGFUL this game is, how emotional and thought-provoking and personal and expertly crafted it is. The strength and vulnerability and passion that it took to make this. I cried so much while playing OW, and I know that it will stay with me for the rest of my life (I have a special place in my heart for it now). Thank you so much for making this, and if you haven't played it - I'm begging you, please play it (if you can handle the content).
Original review:
Honestly words really can't describe how good this game is. Brilliantly animated, expertly written, emotional, raw, and visceral. While I appreciated it from a technical perspective, it also touched me on a deeply personal level. I can't recommend it if you're squeamish (make sure to read the content warnings), but if you can handle gore, I'll say this - you definitely won't regret giving this game your time.
LOVELY. I LOVE THE PLOT. THE G0RE. THE CHARACTERISTICS. PERFECT. PERFECTTTTTT
Okay so, this game rocks! Since I started playing a couple weeks ago (I'm slow at games lol), it has been living in my head "rent free" as they say. I am typically very into guro-style games and collecting all the death screens. If you like that too, this game has plenty of guts and weird ways to die for ya! Cannibalism is a central premise and theme, executed to great success. Probably my favorite thing about this game is how the gore is used thematically. These characters have been friends since childhood yet at times they seem to barely know each other, or themselves. Their emotions are all bottled-up, and when they get to Wonderland it all comes out at once like a wound ripped wide open spilling on the floor. And in this way, it's cathartic and it is feral and downright horrible. Very "childhood innocence lost", or perhaps "never existed". That's what I love about gore in fiction, and this game is doing a great job with it. I do have some gripes, mainly with pacing in the first two arcs. Some scenes are quite slow and seem to drag, but there is always a payoff afterwards. I also thought Gidget's arc left something to be desired, only because by comparison Orlam's arc is so strong. And the game isn't finished yet, so Gidget, I'm still holding out for you. Love these characters, hope they can get outta Wonderland one way or another!
I really REALLY LOVE this game!!!
It's just so good and now it's one of my favorite games in here!!
I love the designs and really REALLY love the relation between Iggy and Genzou.
I REALLY relate to Iggs a lot, also with Genzou. It's just, they are my favorite characters! (Hunar's one of my fav too but eh)
I can't wait for more things for the game!!
(PD: this game saved me from a really dark phase i was going on before, literally helped me to distract some bad thoughts out my mind, i can't thank you enough for helping someone without knowing with just a VN game, Carrot <3/p)
