Adaptation Jam is a four month long game jam where people create adaptations of games by other game developers into other mediums. Adaptations are created by making a video game based off of someone else's tabletop game, or a tabletop game based off of someone's video game. Game designers can find games to adapt by either asking a designer they know or looking through the discussion for the jam, seeing which games designers have given permission to adapt, and asking them.

Video Games <---> TTRPGs

If you would like to have one of your games adapted, create a topic in the Community section of the game and post a link to your game or Itch profile page if you have multiple games you're open to licensing, and then specify how someone may contact you. Additional info such as being open to paid games or not might be appreciated by others as well.

If you want to adapt a game, look in the threads created or consider just asking an indie game developer you know if you have something in mind, they might be open to it!

Rules

  • You are only allowed to create a game after receiving permission from the original game's designer first. You may either ask another game designer or look in the discussion forums for ideas on games to adapt to another medium. Even if you see a thread where a game designer has given permission, you must talk to them first to make sure they approve your pitch.
  • Games must be in a different medium from the one you are adapting. For example, you can make a LARP or tabletop rpg based off a video game, but you cannot make a video game based off someone else's video game.
  • Paid games are allowed but please discuss this with the developer of the game you're adapting to figure out licensing details like revenue sharing.
  • Submitting your game for others to adapt doesn't mean you have to adapt someone else's game, and adapting a game doesn't mean you have to submit one of your own.
  • No racism or other bigotry, no fascism.

If you submit something, share it with us on twitter @mayvisit & @MichaelKlamerus with the #AdaptJam hashtag.
