Welcome to the fifth  edition of Africacomicade Gamathon, Africa's premier convention for the Interactive and Immersive Media industry! From humble beginnings in 2020, we've grown into a dynamic and influential event that brings together creative minds from across Africa to celebrate, collaborate, and innovate within the realms of Games, Digital Art, and extended reality. 1. What is a game jam? 

A game jam is a creative event where game developers, designers, artists, and enthusiasts come together to create games within a limited timeframe. Participants usually have a theme or set of constraints to follow while developing their games.

2. How do I participate in a game jam? 

Participating in a game jam typically involves registering on the jam's official website, if available, or following their guidelines for submission. Keep an eye on the jam's start and end dates, theme, and any specific rules.

3. Do I need to be an experienced developer to join a game jam? 

No, game jams are open to developers of all skill levels. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, participating in a game jam can be a great learning experience and an opportunity to challenge yourself creatively.

4. How long do game jams usually last? 

Game jams can vary in length, but they often range from 24 hours to a week. Some even extend beyond a week. The duration for this game jam is two-weeks starting on Monday  16th September , 2024 and ending on Saturday 28th September, 2024.

5. Can I work alone or do I need a team? 

You have to  participate in the game jam as part of a team. Your team must be diverse i.e work with people from different countries in Africa .

6. What tools can I use during a game jam? 

You're free to use any game development tools, engines, libraries, and assets that you have the rights to use. Common tools include Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, and various art and sound creation software.

7. Is there a theme for the game jam? Most game jams have a theme that participants must incorporate into their games. The theme can be broad or specific and serves as a creative guideline. The theme is scheduled to be announced on Sunday 15th September.

8. Can I use pre-existing assets or code? 

Yes, do ensure you credit any external asset used in your game.

9. What type of games can be submitted? 

There are two major categories for this year's game jam: The Mobile Games Category and The PC/XR Category with different prize pool all to be announced during the jam theme reveal.
