Don't get me wrong, humans are great; any species that's managed to figure out the secret of the can-opener can't be all bad, but boy can they get self-important sometimes. Talking animals, vegetables and minerals seldom get the recognition they deserve and are often relegated to the children's entertainment section. This jam seeks to balance out the abundance of human protagonist in stories with a focus on non-humans of all kinds. Animals (anthropomorphic or feral), object-heads (or just straight-up objects), vegetables, minerals, robots, elementals, abstract concepts... if it's not a human and it talks, it's invited!

This jam is inspired in part by Vootie and similar "Funny Animal, Mineral and Vegetable" fanzines of the 70s and in the spirit of classic fanzines, a scrappy DIY attitude is encouraged, with illustrated Twine-games being especially welcome. To get you started, here are some examples of talking cats, dogs, insects, rocks, robots, wombats and just about everything. Humans aren't exactly banned, but at least the main character should be non-human.

Q & A:

Q: I am a human, can I still enter the jam?

A: Yes, authors are allowed to be human as long as the protagonist isn't.

Q: I am not a human, how do I enter the jam?

A: If you find it hard to use a keyboard because of lack of hands/fingers/opposable thumbs, you can try finding a human to submit in your stead.

Q: I don't know how to make a game, what do I do?

A: Go to twinery.org, download Twine or use the online app. It is easy to learn, the wiki is here.

Q: I don't HAVE to use Twine, do I?

A: Oh no, use whatever you like.

Q: There's a human in my game, is that okay?

A: Yes, as long as the protagonist is non-human, but the higher percentage of non-human characters, the better.

Q: My main character used to be human, is that okay?

A: As long as they stay non-human for most of the game, I don't see why not.
