What is it?

ArtJamSolo is an event where you create a portfolio piece of professional quality based on a given theme or direction.

How?

Each artist will decide on what pieces they will submit based on the given theme. The goal is that, once the jam is over, everyone has a completed piece of work to add to their portfolio.

For example, for a theme of Love you could:

  • Conceptualize a show based on a modern cupid attempting to complete their job and submit character sheets, scene backgrounds, or a storyboard.
  • Create a storyboard of two people breaking up.
  • Conceptualize a video game and submit sprite animations, tile sheets, or music.
  • Write a short story about a woman getting a dog for the first time at the age of 47.

Why?

Working alone on a portfolio can be isolating and, with no deadlines or external expectations, too easy to never actually complete your goals. With ArtJamSolo, you get the feedback of a ticking deadline and the shame of never having submitted anything if you fail to complete your submission. This is the Solo version, so meeting fellow artists and making friends is optional!

WhySolo?

This jam was originally thought of as one where you would join a team of 3 minimum to achieve a similar goal with each person contributing a part of a chosen project, but that would have required more back end work and added a delay to when it could begin. This way, we can all be alone, together, and you can start your work today! Group submissions are still allowed.

What is allowed?

Almost all forms of art that a person would need to have as part of a professional portfolio is allowed. The level of professionalism your submission must reach will be decided by you and you only, everyone starts somewhere!

What is not allowed?

  • Making a completed game is not allowed, as there are many jams with that as the focus already. However, you can submit work for a pretend one, or one you plan on making.
  • No unoriginal content allowed. Original content for a known IP is OK!
  • No sexual content, graphic nudity, or hate allowed. Just be professional!
