Welcome to the annual BBD Game Jam 2022!
THEME: Lightshow
LIMITATION: Only One
We hope you're excited and ready to show us what you're made of, but first we need to get some of the boring stuff out of the way...
PLEASE REFRAIN FROM SHARING THE GAME JAM LINK TO ANYONE OUTSIDE OF BBD WHILE SUBMISSIONS ARE OPEN.
Social Rules
- Conduct yourselves professionally. We're all here to have a good time and build a sense of community! The jam will be made up of peeps of all skill levels, including more seasoned developers as well as complete newbies. Coders, and non-coders. Let's give positive criticism and feedback to help each other grow, while abstaining from being overly critical and/or rude.
Jam Info
- Keep your eyes on the Announcements forum. All relevant information will be posted here, including the theme reveal recap in case you miss the official event. Communication will also be available on the Game Jam Microsoft Teams channel.
- Teams can be formed ahead of time, or if you're not sure who to team up with we'll be helping those without teams join one during the theme reveal!
- Winners will be announced during the Esc@pe 2022 conference, so make sure you're there!
Jam Rules / Restrictions
- You're only allowed to start working on your game as soon as the Jam officially kicks off and the theme is revealed. We've carefully decided on the duration of the jam so as to give everyone of all skill levels a chance to finish their creations. We do however encourage people to start playing around with the Engines they've decided on so that they can focus on making their games during the jam instead of fighting with the tools then.
- You're allowed to use snippets of code that you wrote prior to the jam, as long as you're not copy / pasting an entire project!
- Teams must be made up of at least 2 people, and have a maximum of 4 members. We encourage the more seasoned game jammers to invite some of the newer jammers to their teams instead of clumping up all the experience in one team. That way everyone gets to learn and have fun!
- Final submissions must be done before the 6th of October at 20:00.
- You can use any engine you want, as long as your game is able to be built as a standalone product, meaning that your game should run on the respective platforms without needing another program to run them in. This means that engines such as Roblox and CORE are out of the equation.
- You can export your game for as many platforms as you want, but a WEB build is mandatory! This will also allow everyone to play your games with ease, resulting in more players and votes. Unity, GODOT, and PICO-8 are great for game jams and allows you to export a WEB build with the press of a button.
I don't have a team yet, what do I do?
- Don't worry! If you don't have a team by the time the theme is revealed and the jam kicks off, we'll help you out to make sure no one is left without a team.
I'm stuck with an issue in my game. Can I get help from other teams / jammers?
- Certainly! Head on over to the community page and create a new thread with the tag "SOS", and post your technical / non-technical questions. We encourage all jammers to share their knowledge and skills and help each other out.
Now what?
- You can start making some noise on Twitter using #bbdgamejam. We look forward to seeing everyone's games!
