About
Bitter Jam is a 60 hour long game jam running from May 1st, 2020 to May 4th. All games submitted must only use the tilesheet provided to jammers at the start of the jam. Teams of any size are allowed, and you can find teams in our Discord server. This is a pilot jam - if you'd like to see this become a regular thing, let us know!
Rules
- No new graphics can be created nor can they ever be modified under any circumstances! Rotation (in 90o intervals) and Flipping is allowed
- The tilesheet will be 1 bit (each bit being black or white). With this you can change both the foreground and background color (the color of the black and white parts of the tile so you can invert or change each part to whatever you like).
- Flipping, reflecting, and 90 degree rotations are allowed! These would all count as the same graphic.
- No offensive or hateful content is permitted.
- Challenges (below) are completely optional. The jam hosts will judge the winners of each challenge.
- A "HD" build can be released alongside your game and that version doesn't have to follow any of the rules, but please make sure to label the builds appropriately so the jam version can be distinguished from other builds.
- Scaling is allowed, but the aspect ratio is not allowed to be changed. (No stretching graphics)
- Please provide a windows/browser version so we can play your game!
Challenges (optional)
If you did a challenge, please let us know when you submit! The jam hosts will judge the winners of each challenge.
- Stick to a grid (8x8, 6x8, 5x5, ect.)
- No overlaying graphics (at no point 2 graphics will overlap each-other so you can see one under the other).
Voting
After the jam, there will be a five day voting period. Only submitters and contributors can vote. Games are ranked on the following criteria:
- Tilesheet Implementation
- Gameplay
- Overall Execution
- Challenges (decided by jam hosts)
Jammers who place in the top three overall will receive a special Discord role.
