This is a game jam hosted by Charlotte Game Developers for game developers in the Charlotte, NC area! The jam will take place during the entirety of the month of April.
Teams or solo developers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate! The goal is for you to make a game and join our growing community of people interested in game development in the Charlotte, North Carolina area.
Participants will have 48-non-consecutive hours during the month of April to make a game using the art kit announced when the game jam begins. This follows the style of game jam popularized by Miziziziz; if you're unfamiliar or want inspiration, check out the playlist here. (note: these are all *really* really good jammers. these videos should be inspiring not discouraging!)
UPDATE: The art kit we'll be using is Dungeon Crawl 32x32 tiles
If you're looking for a team, fill out this form and you can view teams here
You can use any game making tool you'd like, just follow these rules:
Rules:
- Each participant can only spend 48 hours (non-consecutive) during the month of April on their game. For teams, each team member gets can spend 48 hours, but that time also includes meeting/discussions (i.e., if two team members meet for two hours, they each should subtract 2 hours from their respective 48 hours). Don't worry too much about tracking brainstorming time or whether thinking about your game while eating lunch should be tracked, just track active, intentional time spent on the game. There's no real way to enforce this, so just use your best judgement.
- Games must make use of the selected art kit (announced when the jam starts) and it should be the primary source of visuals excluding things like text, buttons, shader effects. Again, refer to the playlist linked above for better context.
- Any other assets used should be copyright free (music, sfx, fonts, etc)
- Submissions should be games made during the submission period (the month of April). You are free to re-use old code as needed as long as the end result is a novel game. Again, there's not a good way to enforce this, so it's going to be on an honor system.
- If you're really ambitious, you can work on multiple teams just make sure you track your hours for each separately.
- Have fun! We're expecting a few first-timer jammers and some who've never made a game before. Remember, games are never truly finished so make sure to submit your game regardless and get some feedback!
Join our Meetup group for news on upcoming events and come hang out with us on our Discord! We're hoping to have a meetup or series of meetups after the jam to play each others' games.
