I played this game for a little bit, unfortunately I'm VERY bad at 'bullet hell' style games so I didn't get very far. I like the movement control, it feels really unique. I don't like how I can't get anywhere if I don't get enough viruses into the blob though. I like the emojis as graphics (good way to save time). The collision detection seems good, so I feel pretty sure that how bad I am at this game is related to my own skill and not glitchiness. In terms of the execution of the theme, having read about things like this, I feel uneasy about the focus on Wuhan-as-the-origin-of-the-virus in the main image for this game as well as the main activity of the China stage being dodging Chinese cultural symbols.

All in all I am more impressed with the particles, movement controls, etc than the game that has been produced.

I’ll start with this: The dev team affirms there is zero place for racism and xenophobia in our world. No person should feel unjustly prejudiced, stereotyped or discriminated against as a result of any personal characteristic or affiliation. Naturally, this extends to the perception of people from China in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.

With this is mind, it’s fair to say parts of our submission don’t represent this. I’ve updated the cover art to more accurately portray what our game is about, and we’ll look at what changes to make to the opening level (in line with game jam rules, though I don’t foresee this being a problem).

It’s fantastic to hear you appreciated the game mechanics—the majority of our focus was spent here, making something unique and fun, so it’s nice that it shows in the final product! We have lots of ideas on better integrating this mechanic, unfortunately only able to get a few implemented in the timeframe. As for not being able to get anywhere if you don’t have enough virus cells, you can hit the restart button top-right at any time to have another try at that level.

Great fun. Couldn't get past those damn sprays in April. Also apparently I can't make more virus by making the blob sick lol

Glad that you liked the madness :)

For April its a bit easier to get past the spinning sprays by going via the top / bottom and for the falling spray you need to rush fast enough. There's some nice additions after April ;)
