  • The collision is pretty wonky, and I couldn't tell why I was dying at times. However this is a good start to pico-8 development! Keep it up!
  • Adherence to Theme and Creativity: 2 Nothing really ties the game to the robot theme sadly. on creativity side I guess the impossible game style avoid things is nothing new, but not bbs flooding. Gameplay Innovation and Enjoyment: 2 Sadly the collision kinda takes away from the challange. Impossible games are nice, would love to have more level than 1. Technical Execution and Presentation: 2 The collision is broken to the point of only the upper left corner colliding. Overall I hate to bring the game down as I know it is a starting project, but giving anything more is kinda a disservice to the other ones. I think it is a good starting point a stepping stone to something greater once more knowledge kicks in for the engine! Keep on creating!
  • I can see the start of something here. Having tile based collision and a level design and art is a good first start. I would say that the collision box around the player needs tweaking, the resetting without fanfare feels a bit frustrating, but understandable that this is a rough project. This could be something though. I would say look into tweaking the speed and collider box of the player to give it more fun appeal, and perhaps look into adding sound and animation of some kind. If you're just starting out learning Pico8 and coding, definitely keep at it! Don't let this discourage you, it's a good foundation nonetheless to have this much.
  • Congrats on submitting your first game jam game! It might not be the best but just by committing and submitting, you're miles ahead of all the abandoned projects and your next games will be easier to develop and ship because of this one. Well done!
  • Collision is imprecise and unforgiving. Needs better feedback and better visual design. But I appreciate picking a simple game for a debut project!
  • Reminded me of that one horrifying jump scare game from about 15 years ago- but a fun little thing . The collision seemed SUPER sensitive though , could maybe dxo with some tweaking

Fun simple little game. Some of the collision felt off which is a bit big deal in a game like this. I didn't really see how it fits in with the theme either, but a solid entry nonetheless. Cheers :)

Developer

Thanks.  Yeah the purpose was to show that the barest pretense of a game could be made with very little knowledge.  And I was having issues with the 'proper' collision so I modified it to be janky but still functional.  With another hour I could have put in sound and indication of win/lose conditions.

Nice game! The collision needs a little bit of tweaking and I think a simple death animation and sound effect would go a long way.
