Che cos’è?

La Cthulhu Dark Italia Jam 2024 è una jam per l’ideazione e la scrittura di misteri per Cthulhu Dark (Graham Walmsley, 2ª ed., 2017), organizzata dalla comunità italiana di appassionati del gioco.

Date e orari

La Cthulhu Dark Italia Jam 2024 inizierà il 1° marzo 2024 e finirà il 31 dicembre 2024. La fase di votazione inizierà subito dopo e durerà fino al 31 gennaio 2025. Tutte le date seguono il fuso orario italiano.

Le regole

Scrivi un mistero ambientato in Italia in qualsiasi epoca (presente, passata o, anche, futura). Puoi ambientarlo anche in luoghi che non fanno più parte del territorio italiano.

Scrivi un mistero seguendo le procedure spiegate nel manuale di Cthulhu Dark, nelle sezioni “Scrivere un mistero” e “Riscrivere il mistero” (edizione italiana: pagine 36-57), o “Writing a mystery” e “Rewriting the mystery” (edizione inglese: pagine 27-39).

Puoi partecipare da solo o in squadra. Puoi usare la community della jam per cercare altre persone con le quali collaborare.

Puoi partecipare con uno o più misteri, ma ti consiglio di concentrarti sulla scrittura di un unico mistero e di dare il meglio con esso.

Scrivi un mistero della lunghezza che vuoi, ma ti sconsiglio di superare le 10.000 parole: i misteri troppo lunghi scoraggiano le persone dal leggerli.

Scrivi il mistero nella lingua che preferisci. Ricordati soltanto che l’accessibilità della lingua che usi aumenterà la possibilità di ricevere valutazioni e commenti, alla fine della jam.

Ti consiglio di concentrarti sul testo del mistero. Aggiungi pure i supporti grafici che reputi necessari per giocare, ma ricordati che questa è solo una prima bozza e non tutto deve essere perfetto fin da subito. Concentrati sul testo.

Puoi partecipare con un mistero nuovo o con uno già scritto. In questo secondo caso, ti pregherei di sforzarti di migliorare ulteriormente il mistero, se possibile, prima di inviarlo.

Puoi partecipare con una nuova edizione di un mistero che aveva già partecipato a una precedente edizione della Cthulhu Dark Italia Jam. Il mistero deve essere aggiornato rispetto all’edizione precedente, e può essere recensito e votato. Nel caso in cui avesse già vinto una vecchia edizione della jam, non verrà considerato tra i vincitori della nuova.

Non infrangere la proprietà intellettuale altrui. Puoi usare citazioni ed estratti da altre opere e farti influenzare dal lavoro altrui, ma abbi cura di fare riferimento alle fonti e sii rispettoso del lavoro degli altri.

Sei incentivato a pubblicare il tuo mistero con licenza Creative Commons Attribuzione – Condividi allo stesso modo 4.0 Internazionale. Non è obbligatorio, ma è un bel modo per condividere qualcosa di bello col resto del mondo. Nel caso tu voglia farlo, includi nel tuo mistero il seguente testo:

Quando pubblichi il mistero, sei incentivato a includere tra le sue tag cthulhu-dark, cthulhudarkitaliajam e cthulhudarkitaliajam2024. Non è obbligatorio, ma renderà il mistero più facilmente ricercabile su itch.io.

Ti consiglio di pubblicare il mistero gratis o in pay what you want. Non è una regola, ma è buona norma dargli un prezzo solo dopo averlo playtestato. Inoltre, i giochi a pagamento pongono una barriera economica a chi potrebbe volerli leggere per valutarli e commentarli.

Il tuo mistero può essere escluso dalla jam se affronti un tema delicato in modo irrispettoso. Puoi assolutamente affrontare un tema complesso (come il sesso, la religione o le minoranze), ma sei pregato di prestare attenzione a come lo fai. Se hai dubbi a riguardo, apri una discussione nella community della jam.

Invio dei misteri

I misteri inviati non compaiono tra i partecipanti (nella scheda “Submissions”) fino alla fine della jam, per garantire a tutti una pari esposizione. Per verificare se il tuo mistero è stato inviato correttamente, vai nella pagina del mistero e assicurati che, in alto a destra, vi sia l’etichetta “Submission to Cthulhu Dark Italia Jam 2024”.

Valutazioni

Dal termine della jam, il 31 dicembre 2024, chiunque sia iscritto su itch.io può valutare e commentare i misteri dei partecipanti fino al 31 gennaio 2025. Non sei obbligato a lasciare valutazioni e commenti, ma anche questa fase fa parte della jam e del suo spirito. La valutazione ha un unico criterio, al quale dovrai assegnare da una a cinque stelle:

Nella valutazione, tieni sempre presenti le sezioni “Scrivere un mistero” e “Riscrivere il mistero” (edizione italiana: pagine 36-57), o “Writing a mystery” e “Rewriting the mystery” (edizione inglese: pagine 27-39), del manuale di Cthulhu Dark.

Durante la fase di valutazione, i misteri non possono essere aggiornati.

Community e valori

Nel corso della jam e della fase di valutazione, sii rispettoso, collaborativo e costruttivo. Il mio faro è il Manifesto di Mammut RPG e anche gli eventi che organizzo sono guidati dai principî lì enunciati. Per me, imparare gli uni dagli altri, interagire con rispetto e promuovere una comunità di giocatori e ideatori sono valori chiave. A tal proposito, valuta di partecipare al dibattito nella community della jam aprendo discussioni e replicando a quelle altrui.

What is it?

The Cthulhu Dark Italia Jam 2024 is a jam for the creation and writing of mysteries for Cthulhu Dark (Graham Walmsley, 2nd ed., 2017), organized by the Italian community of lovers of the game.

Date and time

The Cthulhu Dark Italia Jam 2024 will start on 1 March 2024 and end on 31 December 2024. The voting phase will start immediately afterwards and will last until 31 January 2025. All dates follow the Italian time zone.

The rules

Write a mystery set in Italy in any era (present, past or even future). You can also set it in places that are no longer part of the Italian territory.

Write a mystery following the procedures explained in the Cthulhu Dark manual, in the “Writing a mystery” and “Rewriting the mystery” sections (pages 27-39).

You can participate alone or as a team. You can use the community of the jam to look for other people to collaborate with.

You can participate with one or more mysteries, but I suggest you focus on writing one mystery and give your best with it.

Write a mystery as long as you want, but I advise against exceeding 10,000 words: mysteries that are too long discourage people from reading them.

Write the mystery in the language of your choice. Just remember that the accessibility of the language you use will increase the possibility of receiving ratings and comments at the end of the jam.

I suggest you to focus on the mystery text. Add the graphic supports you deem necessary to play it, but remember that this is only a first draft and not everything must be perfect from the beginning. Focus on the text.

You can participate with a new mystery or with an already written one. In the latter case, please make an effort to further improve the mystery, if possible, before submitting it.

You can participate with a new edition of a mystery that has already participated in a previous edition of the Cthulhu Dark Italia Jam. The mystery must be an update of the previous edition, and can be reviewed and voted on. In case it has already won an old edition of the jam, it will not be considered among the winners of the new one.

Do not infringe on the intellectual property of others. You can use quotations and excerpts from other works and be influenced by the work of others, but take care to refer to the sources and be respectful of the work of others.

You are encouraged to publish your mystery under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. It is not mandatory, but it is a nice way to share something beautiful with the rest of the world. In case you want to do it, include the following text in your mystery:

This mystery for Cthulhu Dark is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. To view a copy of this license, visit http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ or send a letter to Creative Commons, PO Box 1866, Mountain View, CA 94042, USA.

When you publish the mystery, you are encouraged to include cthulhu-dark, cthulhudarkitaliajam, and cthulhudarkitaliajam2024 among its tags. It is not mandatory, but it will make the mystery more easily searchable on itch.io.

I suggest you publish the mystery for free or in pay what you want. It’s not a rule, but it’s good to give it a price only after you playtested it. Also, paid mysteries put an economic barrier to those who might want to read them to evaluate and comment on them.

Your mystery can be excluded from jam if you disrespectfully address a sensitive issue. You can absolutely address a complex issue (such as sex, religion or minorities), but please pay attention to how you do it. If you have doubts about this, open a discussion in the community of the jam.

Mysteries submission

Submitted mysteries will not appear in the “Submissions” tab until the end of the jam, to ensure equal exposure for all. To check if your mystery has been submitted correctly, go to the mystery’s page and make sure it is labelled “Submission to Cthulhu Dark Italia Jam 2024” in the top right corner.

During the evaluation phase, the mystery cannot be updated.

Voting

From the end of the jam, on 31 December 2024, whoever is registered on itch.io can evaluate and comment on the mysteries of the participants until 31 January 2025. You are not obliged to leave evaluations and comments, but this phase is also part of the jam and its spirit. The evaluation has only one criterion, to which you must assign from one to five stars:

How well is the mystery designed?

When evaluating, always keep in mind the sections “Writing a mystery” and “Rewriting the mystery” (pages 27-39) of the Cthulhu Dark manual.

Community and values

During the jam and the evaluation phase, be respectful, collaborative and constructive. My beacon is the Mammut RPG Manifesto and also the events I organize are guided by the principles stated there. For me, learning from each other, interacting with respect and promoting a community of players and creators are key values. In this regard, I look forward to participating in the community debate of the jam by opening discussions and responding to those of others.
