Welcome to the DAAD Holiday Jam!

The DAAD Holiday Jam is dedicated to Christmas, the holidays, Winter and the jolly fat guy in the red suit. All games must be text adventures written in the english language using the DAAD adventure creation system.

What is DAAD anyway?

DAAD (Diseñador de Aventuras AD) is the last in a series of text adventure creators created by Gilsoft, beginning with the Quill in 1983.
DAAD was designed for Aventuras AD, the most famous text adventure games company in Spain, and after being lost for several years, it was recovered first by Jaime (Deepfb, Alt) Soriano y Javi (Habi) Chocano from a bunch of old disk found by Andres Samudio (former CEO at Aventuras AD) in his attic. Those disks were sorted, and documentation rebuilt by Pedro Fernandez, and in 2014 DAAD saw the light again. At that point Andrés Samudio granted permission to use it to anyone interested.
Some time later, Tim Gilberts himself recompiled the DAAD compiler again with some improvement, fixed some interpreters, and also released the English interpreters, with the help (and insistence) of Stefan Vogt.
You can find more information here.

Does the jam have any rules?

Of course.

  1. Each entrant must be a text adventure game.
  2. Each entrant must be written using the DAAD adventure writer.
  3. Each entrant much be written using the English Language.
  4. Each entrant must have a holiday-inspired theme, be it Christmas, new year's eve, winter in general, or even Festivus!

When do I start?

You could start writing your adventure right this second if you want to, but the jam officially begins on the 1st of December and ends on the 31st. Best of luck!
