The Challenge

Create a new Decentraland game that can be installed and enjoyed on a 4x4 parcel at Decentraland Game Expo. To be considered for a chance to win, each entry should:

  1. Be inspired by the theme “NEON FAIRGROUND”. Create a new twist on classic funfair or carnival games like Ring Toss, Whack-a-Mole, Shooting Gallery, Skee-Ball, Duck Pond, Dart Throw, High Striker, Coconut Shy or Frog Hop.

  2. Be optimized to run at more than 30 FPS in a 4x4 parcel in Decentraland. The maximum file size is 240MB, but as your game will be judged on fps and optimization, we recommend 120MB or below. Your game must be exactly 64m x 64m in size, and no more than 160,000 triangles or 80m in height. Review these optimization guidelines and full scene limitations.

  3. Be written using version 7 of Decentraland’s SDK (SDK 7) and submitted as a public GitHub repository. If you are new to SDK 7, start with these tutorials.

  4. Include one win condition which could allow players to claim a reward. If your game wins the jam, the Decentraland Foundation will connect this win condition to the Decentraland Quests Service. This will dispense a ticket to players which can be redeemed for a reward Wearable or Emote at the DCLGX Welcome Area**. The win condition is up to you and can be simple like gaining a certain amount of points or finishing the game within a defined time.

  5. Be reasonably easy to play at level one. From there, the difficulty is up to you! Game instructions for players must be self-evident when entering your game. Judges will experience your game as a player, they won’t read your code or the GitHub README file.

**If your game is selected for DCLGX, you can submit your own Wearable or Emote to be added to the reward pool. Submission fees for up to two Wearables or Emotes will be reimbursed by the Decentraland Foundation.

Judging Criteria

Your game will be judged on:

  1. Theme - How successfully does your game reflect the theme “NEON FAIRGROUND” in its gameplay and visual style?
  2. Optimization - How consistently does it run at 30 FPS or more when installed in Decentraland? How far does it affect the performance of the scenes around it?
  3. Gameplay - How fun is your game? How easy is it to understand how to play? How long does it keep the judges engaged?
  4. Innovation - How effectively does your game use the capabilities of Decentraland? Does it offer something new or surprising? Is it creative and imaginative?

Participating

This game jam is a great opportunity to create your first Decentraland game, or build a prototype for your next Decentraland hit. What can you do in four weeks of development time?
