The Fishing Horror Jam rises from the depths...
In 2020, the Fishing Horror Jam was a weird idea that people seemed to love. After a second Fishing Horror Jam that failed to get the promotional push it needed to be noticed, I've begged my employer, DreadXP to join me in hosting a new Fishing Horror Jam, with a slightly expanded theme.
While fishing horror is great, and encouraged, we wanted to get a little Lovecraft with it. When talking about just fishing, we were ignoring all the other awesome and terrifying things that reside in the ocean. So we're dredging the depths, as it were, and opening up entries to contain everything under the sea. Fearful fishing, scary sailing, dreadful diving, and everything in-between.
The jam will run for 10 days, from December 10th to December 20th. Entries will be judged by the staff at DreadXP, along with some of our community members.
Yes, there are absolutely prizes! We'll announce them as the jam goes on, and they'll include some pretty neat stuff. I'll start with an easy one: Everyone who submits a project to the jam will get a free consult from the production team at DreadXP. We'll look at your project (any project. It doesn't have to be from the jam) and offer a consultation about how best to move forward in regards to marketing, outreach, and promotion.
1. We pretty much want it to be depths-themed. Under the water, on the water, etc. The gameplay style is your choice completely.
2. No games made pre-jam. These projects should be made for and during the jam itself. Pre-made assets and code are completely fine, we just don't want something you've already entered in another jam.
3. Games submitted after the jam cutoff will not be considered for judging
4. Gore, explosions, violence, and weirdness are fine. Racism, sexism, misogyny, etc. will not be allowed nor considered for judging.
5. Games do not have to be complete to submit, but we do ask that they be functional to be considered for judging.
6. We reserve the right to modify, do away with, and otherwise change or add to these rules.
7. Participants do not need to know how to swim to enter.
We've built a special space for jammers to kick back, relax, and talk with other members of the community about their works in progress.
