This jam is now over. It ran from 2020-04-01 07:00:00 to 2020-05-07 07:00:00. View results

The premise for this month-long game jam lies in the presupposition that Art is an expression, primarily, of the Vision of the Unconscious Mind. It follows logically from this premise that the best games tend to germinate within the dreams of the developer, taking shape only secondarily in the Waking, intersubjective World, from whence they take root within the dreams of the players.

In short: the theme is Dreams.

If you require a more concrete example, download Yume Nikki for free from Steam. You might also want to consider playing games with strong mythological and fantastic influences, such as the following:

  • Spyro the Dragon. (esp. the Dream Weavers World.)
  • The Curse of Monkey Island.
  • The Jak and Daxter trilogy.
  • Nier: Automata.
  • Braid.
  • FEZ.
  • God of War.
  • Psychonauts.

Those are only to name a few.

Outside of games, films such as the ones listed below might aid your creativity:

  • Mulholland Drive.
  • Waking Life.
  • Inception.
  • The Holy Mountain.
  • Synecdoche, New York.

Again, this is only cursory.

Some books which might be of help include:

  • A Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. (Fiction.)
  • Man and His Symbols. (Nonfiction.)

Submissions are welcome from all genres.

Censorship will be relaxed, but warnings and restrictions are requested for content which might be triggering. Let us not preclude the existence of universal standards in such matters.

You have one month to make your submission, within the month of April, 2020. Voting will occupy the following week. Criteria for competition have yet to be determined. Competition results will not impact your publication, though the announcement of these results may provide more exposure for some games in place of others.
